Going to get the Protege and the CX-7 (front windows) tinted this week. Found a small local shop with good prices. My question is are there different brands (good or bad) of tint? Are the cheaper shops using tint that is of a poorer quality? Any help on this would be great before I go in to the shop.

i've always had good luck with 3M, which is a major brand carried by and used in most bigger shops. I'd say it might be the leading brand, but don't hold me to that. I've also done business with smaller shops who used another brand, but it's name escapes me right now. Either way, get your guarantee in writing! I've seen bad tint jobs that started out looking great...good luck! Doing my CX next week... :)

Got the protege done. Its a little darker than I would have wanted but looks sweet. Going to have the cx-7 done tomorrow in thr front to match with the back. Here's a pic of the protege for now.

Got the CX7 done today. Thanks to everyone for there help. 15% is almost right on for the match of the rear. Came out really nice and was $49.00. Here are some pics, sorry the cars are dirty they will be washed tonight.

i just got ours done also.... man what a differance front tint does! I ended up paying 90$ because they did the tiny little windows also. its illegal for fronts in illinois, but ill chance it! never got a ticket in the 6 when i had it for a year and a half!

Tint is Awesome...

Almost any pro installer will have good film.. This is one thing that I would leave to a Pro..

It's a Killer to do by yourself..

Yeah found a coupon the other day in the paper and just let the guy do it. Really did a nice job. Did all the windows in the protege and the 2 front on the 7 and the total was $149.00 + tax. Really happy with the job!

Confused by all the % numbers. The protege is 15% front and 5% rear (yeah its dark). The cx7 is 15% all around.

Tint is rated at what light it passes, not what light it blocks. Lower=darker. 15%? I just said match the rears. Didn't think it was THAT dark. $50, front 2 nor cal.
