Finally got around to reserving a Black MS3 GT here in Detroit, MI. I've been lurking in these forums for quite a while and finally decided to make a post. I've been driving a fugly 2001 Yellow Focus ZX3 for the past 5 years and figured it was time for a serious upgrade. I've been deciding between the RX-8, GTi, MS3, and SRT-4 for a long time, and decided on the MS3. My only concern is since the car is so damn light how will this thing handle in the snow? Since I'll be lucky if I can really drive the car until March I'm considering holding off until the February shipments come in... but I'm not that patient. :)
Any other Detroit area MS3 (future) owners out there?

I live in the area, where did you go to get the MS3? I'm thinking about getting a silver Sport model soon, but I am hoping to get one with S-plan.

Titan,
What percent tint is that? I've got a black mica coming in about 2 weeks and definitely want it tinted, and I really like the way yours looks. Not too dark, but not too light either.

welcome to the forums and congrats on the car!
as for the snow, I think compared to the focus, this car should handle just about as well. The problem will be the high-performance summer tires, according to ms6 owners, they arent too good in bad weather. With a good set of snows, this thing should blast right through the white stuff.
also, Titan, looks good with the tint. My last car was tinted but I cant decide if I should tint this one too. How much did that cost you?

o_O You can get away with a 20% tint?
Lucky! Cops here will pull you over in a heartbeat.
I'm wondering what % tint (for the MS3) I can get away with in the
NoVA area.
I've never had problems with a 35% in my RSX,
but then the car did have a light interior (tan).
Having a black interior like the MS3 will definitely make the tint
look much darker.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm going to pick it up in about 35 minutes, as soon as the girlfriend gets off work. I got mine at the Suburban Imports of Farmington Hills on Grand River, they have a very limited quantity (naturally). There was a guy in line before me that failed is credit check, so I'll be getting mine 3 weeks before I was "supposed to". That means that all you Detroiters looking for a MS3, there should be a slot open for a Black GT if you're quick enough. I can give you the name of the sales guy I worked with if you're interested. I'll let you know how it turns out. I'm just glad the weather we were supposed to get this week held off for at least another day!

Well, I got the car, it drives absolutely beautifully. My girl wasn't a big fan of it until she got inside. The interior lights are awesome. I even got to see a light I shouldn't be seeing for at least another 10,000 miles or so. On the drive home from the DEALERSHIP the check engine light decided to pop on. Maybe it was on when I drove it off the lot, my powers of observation may have failed me.
I was seriously pissed off since I've had the car for less then 30 minutes and it'll already have to be taken in for a checkup. I'll let you know how it goes when I take her in tomorrow. I can honestly say, I'm probably the first MS3 owner with a check engine light. Congrats to me? :(

ouch a CEL already?? I had the TPMS light come on after ~30 miles and then it went off in about 30 more, so hopefully for your sake its nothing, just the car getting broken in...
I live in Hawaii, lowest you can go for tint is 35%..

I wouldn't really call the MS3 light. If you plan on driving your new car in snow. You won't be able to make a go of it with the OEM tires. As they are summer only compound. With some snow tires mounted and with the help of DSC, ABS, and a limited slip you shouldn't have any problems.

Just keep a couple of bags of potatoes in your trunk until Spring.(sssh)
