I noticed a number of the Mazda3 folks are running them and wondering if anyone had tried this on a 5 yet?

I have a set of chrome Shinka RX-8 wheels sitting here just waiting for Mazda to ask for them back under warranty (very slight blemishes under the chrome).

or has anyone actually put RX-8 18's on their Mazda5? I have seen the pic from last year of the white 5, I was just hoping someone may have some real-world experience with mounting these rims, how they fit, and what tires will work best. Any thoughts out there? I pick up a set of these rims tonite and am excited to get them on.

I haven't seen any posts with someone running these wheels on the Mazda5 so you may be the first. BTW, if you decide not to use them on your Mazda5 pls let me know because I've been looking for a set to run on my MPV for a while now. Send me a PM if you ever want to part with them. I'm in Calgary.

Cool! post some pics. I've seen a couple of pictures of the MZ5 with MazdaSpeed6 and/or RX-8 wheels (see below). With regards to what tires to use I would look at what Mazda chose for stock or OEM on those wheels (size, brand, etc.) and move from there (just to make sure)
OK OK, the RX-8 Wheels pic is a repeat from an earlier answer, but it just looks so damn cool :D

No Doubt, Go with the RX-8 Wheels, you wonŽt regret it, Fuck MS6 wheels, they donŽt say anything, ugly by the way. and if you have the luck to find the RX-8 Shinka Wheels which are Gunmetal dark polish, they are the best looking freaking rims......
Liquid Plat MS6

MS6 wheels are also 2.5lbs heavier than RX8 wheels, 1 inch narrower (18x7 vs 18x8) and a PITA to clean (all those little spaces between the 15 spokes). RX8 wheels take less than half the time.
First thing I did on my MS6 is sell off the stock wheels/tires and put on RX8 wheels. Shinka's would have been nice but I couldn't find any at the time.

Do you have any more pictures of your 5 with the MS6 wheels? I'm still debating on getting the rx-8 wheels. I know they are easier to clean, wider & lighter but the MS6 wheels are harder to come by and more exclusive (i think)... i have a guy willing to sell the rx-8 for a good price and need to make a decision this week. More photos will help me decide. Mahalo in advance.

No worries at all - thanks for the compliment. And to all that don't care for the MS6 rims - to be honest with you, they weren't my first choice. I looked all around for RX-8 rims, but couldn't find any as cheap as I got these. I have a friend that works at a local tow yard and they got a MS6 that been totaled and he gave these to me FOR FREE! I figured I couldn't beat that price!

Your suspension is still stock height, right?
I really like the style of the stock wheels. But your 18" wheels make the 17" look so tiny.
How's the ride? Do the sidewalls make it more bumpy and can you tell there is more grip?

Now, I know this was discussed earlier on one of the threads (read disclaimer ;)), but that definitely does not seem to be the silver color I've seen on Mazda5s in the US... Or, is this just the pic color palette?

These pics were taken on my 2.0mp cell phone, but the front shot is a fairly accurate display of the color.
And I'll replace the photos in the links when I can take a few better pictures.

Its platinum silver. The same color as mine. Theres also another shade of silver that was sold. i think it was called stellar silver or something like that.

The ride is great. You can feel the road more (better?). But the ride is anything but harsh.
The biggest improvement is in the traction. There is no more accidental tire slippage on launch.
I think it would look better lowered, but that's when the ride will start to suffer. I think big sway bars would be better for the handling and ride.
I bought the rims for around 800 and the Pirelli tires were about 150 each.

OK, Thanks for the clarification :D. So there is also 2 silver colors in NA. I thought they were only sold only in Asia and Europe and NA only got one.
See the pic, so if I'm right (or color-blind) the left is then like the one you two guys have, and the far right one is the other silver tone. Please note that none of them are the Stellar Green color sold here. Funny thing, now that I see it, the Mazda3 in the middle is yet a 3rd silver color variation from Mazda it seems... (eyeballs)

Yes, suspension is still stock - as far as ride goes, it's a little louder IMO than with the 17's, but the handling on the MS6 rims is definately more responsive.
