It seems that after installing the MAM mid-pipe, I've noticed a weird noise I never heard before. It only becomes noticeable after driving steady at about 80 MPH for about a minute. The noise sounds like a chatter and rumble that varies depending upon road conditions. It changes in intensity (loudness) when riding over pavement seams or patches, and also when changing lanes (turning slightly). Slowing to 75 MPH, it goes away. The engine is turning about 3500-3600 RPM at 80 MPH. If I push in the clutch, it is still noticeable but disappears as the car slows. The noise remains when increasing speeds beyond 80 MPH.
I've double checked the mid-pipe and it does not hit or come close to the cross member. Inspection of CV joint boots show not cracks or splits so I think they are not dry and should be good. The car is my daily driver with over 75K. I've got original wheel bearings and LSD (as I very infrequently launch the car).
Anyone experience something like this before? It may not have anything to do with the mid-pipe. What else could it be?
