I have a 1994 MX6LS V6 VIN 1YVGE3107R5137739. It needs a complete new exhaust system from the manifold back. I am having trouble getting header pipes (exhaust manifold to cat converter) that fit.

I have ordered two sets from different suppliers. One is Bosal H2000-59818 the other is Walker 54186. Both are identical and neither fits my car. The new parts are too tall (vertical distance from converter flange to manifold flanges), have the wrong bolt pattern for my car, and have ports for oxygen sensors that my car does not have.. I know my car is all original as I have owned it since new.

I have searched all over the internet and find no other header pipes listed for this model, and no reference to any other applicable headers. In the online Walker catalog there is a mention that the 54186 is not for non-California cars, but my car was bought new in Massachusettes, so it is unlikely to be a California car.

At this point I am stumped and without a car.

Any idea what the problem is?

Thanks

For starters, the VIN# that you have provided shows that your car is a California emissions vehicle. The easy way for you to verify this is that you have convertors in your existing manifolds. CA emissioned cars where sent all over the US it all depended on what the dealer ordered and what Mazda had available with those packages.

This may also be why you are having trouble getting the correct headers for your car.

As you sit you have 2 choices:
1- convert your exhaust to a non-CA emissioned exhaust. Should only take getting a non-CA Y-pipe and extending the O2 sensor wires to be able to mount into the Y-pipe instead of the EM's.

2- send back the headers and go with all OE exhaust components.

IMO it will be easier and probably a little cheaper to do #1.
