Can anyone enlighten me what the blue light/sensor is for in the middle of the ceiling right between the front seats? Initially I assumed it's a temperatur probe for the auto climate control, then I noticed the blue hue and now I am wondering if it's just mood lighting?

Its the sensor for the smartcard system.

Mood lighting for fun is all.....was not told it was for the smart card system...what is that anyway??

It's actually called the intelligent key system. Its comes on the top model. You just carry a credit card sized smartcard in your pocket and you don't need a key or remote. The sensor detects the key so the vehicle will run.

I think there may be some confusion here...
The little blue light is on all Grand Touring models, and it is ONLY an overhead blue light that is designed to cast a faint "glow" over the shift console area. In effect - a mood light! You need to really be in the dark to notice it.
I don't think this light is any kind of sensor, and it has nothing to do with the smartcard system.

You are right, it is hardly noticable in most other conditions but complete darkness. Can someone confirm that it's just a mood light? I'd be thrilled to point this out to my Landcruiser friends who think they drive the bomb but no mood light. Hehe.

Check your owners manual. The sensor for the intelligent key system IS located in the spot where the blue light comes out of. Hope this ends the confusion.

The sensor might be installed there, but bluish light acting as sensor would not make much sense?!? Still probably sensor with mood light :)

I would think the sensor would be at the front of the dash where the sunlight sensor is. I have a GT and that blue light is just a light...I love it by the way. Well....maybe it's different with the tech package. Heck....let's just say it's both!!;]

Not a sensor. Just for aesthetics.

I don't have the auto key system. Do you have a page reference in the manual?

PEOPLE, read your owners manual. The blue light is not the sensor, but the sensor IS located in that spot. Not in the front of the dash.
If anyone has some time a photo would be nice thanks.

Section 3-7 shows where the sensors are. I can't find anything about the blue light. Maybe it's a Vulcan death ray? Don't put your hand under it :)

Is there any way to make this brighter? Perhaps a new bulb? It is to faint for my taste and my MDX has the same thing and is much brighter.

Maybe I'm wrong but if it was a Vulcan wouldn't it be green(glare)
