Hey guys and ladies, just looking for a comparison between the two. I currently own a 2003 FX45 and am seriosly considering a CX-7. Most likely a GT with tech. I have FX with tech. I notice that their is no DVD player in back but thats about all the difference I see. For 26K cheaper, I dont think u can go wrong. The FX is faster but I can do without that. What do you guys think, should I trade. Do you think the mazda will be as reliable?

Unless I was SEVERELY worried about gas prices and running costs, I would say that the CX-7 is not even in the same league as the FX45. Maybe an FX35 or a well optioned Murano or something.

I would NEVER trade an FX45 for a CX-7

Oh and I think that reliability would be about equal with the FX45 having the slight edge in fit and finish.

If you want to save money, I'd say why not. This car drives great, is well appointed for the money! People have seen it really love it and feel it looks more expensive than it is. Sure, it's not an FX 45 but if you are looking to save lots of money and get a cool, fun car this is it!! I am getting 21.5 mpg city right now so gas wise it's decent too!! The FX is a gas guzzler I imagine. The ride is way better than the Murano. Reliability is unknown at this point...it's new and may have a few issues along the way. I'd say it will be better than average though. I have had 2 Mazda's but none longer than 3 years and one a rotary engine and the rotary had some issues but the other ran perfectly. I think it's a good choice coming from the FX 45. Everyone has the Lexus 330!! The CX 7 is sporty plus a bit of luxury!

I think it is very hard to compare an FX45 and a CX7.A more
likely comparo would be an RDX or X3(I believe Motor Trend is having
this comparo next month)

Okay guys, let me rephrase. Do you guys think that these vehicles are similar enough for me to "downgrade" to a cx-7. As for gas mileage, the FX sucks. averaging 16.7 miles per gallon 60% hwy and 40% city.

Sorry, but noone can really answer your question.

You simply need to drive one. I was able to take one for 24hrs to really test it.

The CX-7 has plenty of pep, and is fun to drive. It has it when you need it.

As for ride quality, the CX-7 is a "sport" ride. I'm 40, and have been used to rock-crawling Jeeps, so the CX-7 is plenty smooth for me. But it won't be as smooth as your current ride.

If you can sacrifice some comfort for a lot of money saved, then it might work for you.

See if you can get one for 24hrs.

Similiar....they are two different price points......both similiar in design I guess. I am a fan of the FX...never drove one though. You need to go drive a top of the line one and that will answer your question....not sure what you are really looking for. You will get better gas mileage on the CX7, it may not have the power you want or ride. You need to drive one! Tell us more once you get in the driver's seat it would be an interesting comparison!!!! Good luck and have fun!!

Everyone has the Lexus 330!!

Oh Cruz, this is just TOO true.

During our week on Hilton Head, it is no exaggeration to say that nearly 1 out of every 7 or 8 vehicles on the road there is a Lexus RX 330. There are some very nice subtle colors available, but they are as COMMON AS GOLF CARTS down there - and I'm no golfer!

Someone else here commented on the awkward placement of the shifter in those hounds, and that is for sure, too.

We however, were the ONLY CX-7 on the road!

FX 45, no comparision. You are moving from an LUXARY car to a "more down to earth" car. I mean, it will work and run good and probably will enjoy it, but, with the infinity is in a class all by itself

Cmon guys - whats this sucking up to (bow) Infinity?!?

I have CX7 (GT awd w tech) and my buddy has FX35 (wo tech but 20" rims and stuff) and he's willing to trade and pay me (glare)

Needless to say both cars not on sale here in Europe (shocked)
So compareing them here, would be based solely on the car itself - not some marketing BS (image) or dealership values etc.

Bottom line - make the change. Fuck that rebadged and overpriced NISSAN(gun)

Mistake #1 - You're comparing the wrong FX. The guy has an FX45 not a 35 and thats what he's comparing the CX-7 to.

Mistake #2 - Image counts. If it didn't, VW would have sold a million phaetons and people would not buy Mazda's because they share tons of parts with fords. But most people know that Mazdas IMAGE is that they produce affordable fun to drive cars for the masses which is why I love em.

Mistake #3, - While Infinitis are just the lex division of nissan, they cars, and yeas their dealerships are acut above. Trust me: I owned an infiniti and I worked at a nissan dealership. So I've have the experience from both sides.

Case in point. I'd take a G35 coupe over a 350Z anyday and I'd also take an M35 or M45 over a maxima anyday. Similar cars bt one's just a cut above.

So to reiterate. If you're looking for a more affordable ride and gas prices are hurting you then the CX-7 is the way to go. It seems to be an excellent vehicle. But if you think that a CX-7 is in anyway in the same league as an FX45, you're off your rocker!

Basically cant lie about my buddies ride, if he has FX35, then its hard for me to say he has 45 :)
For the price difference of the V8 version you can have two cars

Hehhee - i love Mazda for the reliability and "fun to drive" part and i drive CX7 because it's one of the kind here in Estonia (euro version will come next fall) - so that "masses" part really dont fly with me (glare)

AS an Infinity owner you still have to go nissan dealership here - so I was talking about car here- you can buy a Jugo for couple of $ and throw in some additional millions for sellers to book you an ad on 2007 SuperBowl halftime to tell you how great (2thumbs) your car is.(first)

Mostly i agree with you - but this is not a "money " issue also (glare)
crappiest gas you can buy here is 92 and mostly i use 98 wich costs about 1€ per litre ( about 5$ per gallon) but i also drive a brand new 750 BMW (20" rims, nightvision etc) (burnout)

Let me guess, you are originally from Jõgevamaa and you have someone from the Riigikogu in your back pocket. Nice choice of cars anyway...

I like my cars, thank you. :)

Anything beyound those two estonian (bowdown) words?

Drive a CX and decide after that. ;) It just begs you to find back road and rail on it.

As for reliablitly, no one really knows yet since it's new for this model year. Most first year models with any manufacturer have their teething problems but are usually ironed out quickly. There are a few TSB's thus far for minor annoyances but nothing major.

Nah, unfortunately not, your post made me realize that I knew little about Estonia, so Wikipedia was my friend. How did you get the CX-7 to Europe so quickly?

I traded my Toyota Sequoia Limited.. I also looked at a used FX 35, but saw the gas mileage seemingly comparable to the Sequoia.

I now have 5,000 on my GT AWD CX-7 and love it. There are a few things I miss including my gas mileage read and 2 stage heated seats. Other than that the fit and comfort of the CX-7 is good. I have taken several long trips. Gas mileage 20-21 mixed driving. I am disappointed about no MP3 connect yet and no XM radio.

I love the look of the FX, but also really love the CX-7 look.
