so today on ym way to school i was taking a right turn, put my car in second gear, and let off the clutch to continue on my way. just as i let off my cars engine tone suddenly changed. my buddy who i take to school while his DSM is being rebuilt looked at me immidiately... eh heard it to so i knew i wasnt crazy.

we both thought the new growl was some kind of small exhaust leak... so i didnt think too much of it.

well i went thru school, came home, removed my side moldings cause i was that bored, and went to hockey practice. when i got home from hockey practice i decided to pop the hood, start the car, and get in there with a flash light.

what i found was nothing to irregular at first. it seemed that the sound could only be distinguished when put right after the original sound. but just as i was going to listen under the car, i put my ear close to the valve cover to confirm what i was afraid i heard.

i clicking tapping sound that was growing louder from the intake side of the engine, its the same sound ym buddies DSM made as his crank began walking. i knwo i dont have crank walk but none the less it scared me.

so i ran to advanced and saw the same guy i always see. he came and listened and told me it was either my intake manifold vtcs screw that i ahd mentioned to him before or a sticking valve.

my question is, does anyone know which one?

just as a side note, ive experienced no loss of power, if anything i've experienced a gain in top end it seems... maybe tis in my head but thought id throw it in...

oh... and my intake is DEFINENTLY sucking in harder... my k&n whistles in every gear now all the way to red line... fascinating really...

check that thread. it has all the symptoms and everything of a vics issue.

also, just to be safe, pull your plugs, make sure none are smashed or anything.

I would pull the valve cover and see if anything is rolling around in there too... with as little time as it takes, it can't hurt.

I had 2 VICS screws go through my motor before I took my mani off. You will know if it makes it into a cylinder. It was a very loud knocking sound. From what you are saying I would say that its just a lifter. I have one that will stick now and then for a day or 2 then stops.
