To whom it may concern,

Ok, this is a long story but i need advice so i can weight out all of my decisions from here on out. I purchased a Mazdaspeed protege from a mitsubishi dealership with an AS IS warranty(yeah im kicking myself now). Salesman tells me its still under factory warranty which it technically was it only had 33,000 miles on it. I take it to Mazda to get it checked out they tell me everything is ok with the car, no problems. Two weeks later i have a ticking noise in my engine. I take the car back to Mazda, they say I have a voided warranty becasue I have a downpipe on the car and I guess the guy that had the car before me had gauges on it with oil lines all messed up and some B.S. like that. They did not bother to tell me this when I took it in the first time to get it serviced and I still had a chance to take it back to the Mitsubishi dealership. So now Mazda says they wont warranty the bad rod in the #4 cylinder, and Tustin Mitsubishi won't honor it because they are saying they sold it AS IS, even though the salesman verbally told me it still has factory warranty. Furthermore, they didn't even tell me about the aftermaket parts on the car.

Well that part is whateer I got a lawyer for that who should i go after both dealerships? Whos at fault here? I know it is partially my fault for not protecting myself with the warranty. Anyways back to the point, I have a bad rod. Is it possible for me to replace the rods and pistons only? How hard would this be? Would this have any adverse affects on my motor breaking again in the future? What exactly do I have to do to get Arias/Pauter combo to fit in my car. Would I be better off purchasing a built shortblock? All advice is welcome, just dont flame me because I'm not really into dealing with ITG's. Internet Tough Guys, everybody makes mistakes act like it.

If I understand your question, you should be able to just replace the whatever part jacked up, unless in jacking up it blew a hole in your block.

You need to give a bit more info on the problem itself, not what caused it so we can help better and give you the best recommendations. Also, you need to specify what your plans are with the car. Because if you plan to mod the shit out of it, then I lean more towards suggesting a more expensive but better build. If you plan to leave it be, then I tend to lean towards a cheaper option.

For the price of litigation you could probally just buy a block.

Well in terms of building it up. I want to get about 225+ whp out of it, I think that would be a nice start, but honestly getting it running is the most important thing right now. However, I don't want to get it running at the sacrifice of reliability, already been that route. The problem with the engine is that it is ticking around 3000 rpm very bad and moderately through the rest of the rpm range. I took it to mazda and they did their warranty "full circle inspection" and their diagnosis was that it was the Connecting Rod in the number 4 cylinder. I basically wanted to know if a rod/piston upgrade would be a viable option, instead of ordering a whole new block. Strictly speaking the time associated with getting my hands on a new block might take too long. What do you consider a better, more expensive build? Also, how expensive is expensive because that is a relative term depending on who you are talking to. Also, on the litigation I do not have to pay the lawyer unless I win, and if I do win his salary should be included in the damagaes.

That really depends on the condition of your block. Does it have holes in it? Is the bore ok? Basically, just ask the guy who took it apart what the condition of the block is, and if you could get pics of it, that would be even better.

OK LISTEN TO ME! Just fucking buy a stock downpipe and put it on the car, then call Mazda road side assistance and have them tow your car to another dealership and pretend that you dont know what is wrong with it. They will fix it guarrenteed, if they ask just say that there was never anything done to the car and if you dont fix it you will call Mazda USA. End of story, no wasted money no problems.

get on MOCC btw!!! we can actually help you there, theres a lot of members out in LA, if you want a new block we can help you get one for around 300 bucks dude.

Sorry to hear for your troubles, I'd say take the car back to the dealer that you bought it from and have them deal with it. They told you it was still under factory warranty then it should be fixed. You didn't do anything to the car so why should you be out of a car?
