KIA cee’d MAKES GLOBAL DEBUT IN PARIS
The all new Kia cee’d will make its world wide debut at this year’s Paris Motor Show and will go on sale across Europe this December. Designed specifically to suit European tastes, the cee’d is a significant step towards achieving Kia’s giant aim of 100,000 sales by the end of the decade.
The concept version of this model, also named cee’d, stole the show at ExCeL and the unveiling of the super styled production model is set to do the same at Paris.
This latest C Sector offering from Kia is to be the first model produced at Kia’s new state of the art factory in Slovakia. In response to market trends and buyers’ needs, the new cee’d is designed and built in Europe for the most European of tastes.
Kia began reinventing themselves with the introduction of the Picanto less than two and a half years ago. This was the first in a new generation of Kia products and the whole range has been updated since that time. The cee’d marks another step forward in Kia design and with the recent appointment of Peter Schreyer, the man behind the Audi TT, Kia has set the bar high for its next phase of growth in Europe.

With the exception of the taillights, I quite like the production model. The interior is slick... What's up with the name though?

Rear qtr windows are Mazda3 esq., the interior has nice appointments though a bit bland. In all a much better improvement in style.
i think the concept is badass. comparatively the production version seems quite ho-hum, but its by no means an ugly car i guess.

KIA KIA KIA KIA!!! I have a rio cinco... what can I say. i'm a kia fan boy I'll admit it. Every gen of new Kia is so much better than the gen before. I really think the newer cars they are making are up to par with their competition.

The interior on the concept is way to busy and those rims have to go. They should make the concept body style with the regular production interior and wheel. I think that would look good.

I reckon any of the new kia products that have been built in the last 18mths would be as good as any other japanese marques. The Magentis/Optima is a brilliant car, the New Carnival is excellent and the Rio aint bad for a cheapie!
All in all, I reckon hyundai and KIA will prove to be be a serious force agaisnt lesser japanese cars. I would seriously prefer either a KIA or a hyundai to lets say a mitsubishi. (excluding the EVO of course)

I kinda like the look of it, except the dash, too much smooth boring black, needs a bit more there. Other than that, looks pretty good. Wants to compete with the 3, but also looks like it wants to BE the 3.

Spike Blue you already have a kia that lasted you well over 200k miles correct? Why not get another one... perhaps the new Kia C'EED when it comes to the states. (first)

wow I hadn't seen those concept renderings before.. looks awesome! (though yeah, interior is a bit busy).
The production version doesn't look bad at all.
Is that coming here to replace the Spectra or something?

I hope thats the new spectra. Rumor is the new spectra (or replacement) will get a bigger motor than the current motor. My rio cinco is at 100k miles and still runs like it was new so it will be a long time before my family buys another kia... (ughdance)

I like both versions. It's no P5 but I think it looks well put together and I would not be embarrased to be seen in one.

Be prepeared to get laughed at by some people lol. When I was cruising around in the Rio Cinco I got laughed at by these girls that were parked at the local tuner hang out in CT (berlin turnpike). Typical "you drive a kia haha" girls (they were in a 93 ford probe). I really didn't care cause the next week I showed up in my brand new tiburon and owned them. But yeah, you do get laughed at sometimes for driving a kia. Its like how people used to laugh at japanese car owners back in the day.

I'd have come back with: "And you're driving a mobile enema"
The Rio Cincos (while being a blatant P5 ripoff) is a well put together little car. Hyundais in general are beginning to kick butt and take names.
I can't believe the ego of some people out there mocking a perfectly good Rio5 when they drive an old clapped out 93 probe. Hold your head up man!

I don't see the rio cinco as a p5 knockoff at all. What won people over about the P5 was it's styling.. the Rio Cinco is a great car, with a nice smooth ride, but it didn't in any way try to emulate the styling of the P5. Are you thinking of the Spectra5 maybe?

Yeah it does have a bit of a different look than the Protege5, and I like them. I like the interior fit and finish of my Protege more, but I wish my Protege5 had the Hyundai Beta engine that is in the Spectra5. I'd definitely be turbo by now if I had that engine :)

Hell, my parents had bought the very first Hyundai that came to the states in 1985. I was the Excel GS model. 2 door hatch with 5-speed, roll up windows and a carbed engine. I drove that thing like I was Mario Andretti through many mountains. Of course it lacked in power, but still fun. With all that hammering on the car it actually lasted till about 120K miles. That's when the piston rings wore out and I traded it in the year 1995. 10 years, not bad for back then. Car still looked great though.

The spectra5 is a neat looking little car for sure. Motors rated about the same as the FS-DE HP/Torque numbers right?

Hyundai's 2.0. It was in the tiburon, later in the elantra, now the spectra too. 140hp, so not crazily more powerful than our beloved (ha) FS-DE, but it can handle a HELL of a lot more boost with stock internals. If we had the beta, there wouldn't be constant "oh shit another zoom zoom boom" threads and people bailling out of their high-HP quests left and right.

As I've said before: If you look at the FS-DE the wrong way, it will detonate on yo butt!

The hyundai beta is hyundais most sucessful motor IMO. It's their second attempt at making their own motor. It is used in their elantra, tiburon, sonata (in some countries), tucson, Kia's spectra and sportage also use the beta.Hyundai did not make their own motors until 1995 when they made the hyundai alpha motor. Followed by the Beta in 1996 and Delta V6 in 98 and Sigma V6 in 98. The nightmare hyundais that always broke down had motors made by Mitsubishi and we all know how mitsubishi usa is doing these days. Kia has been using Mazda motors for a long time. Kia made their first major motor in 1998 with their sephia/spectra T8D motor. Until 2004, the kia sportage has been using a mazda F series motor that is forged from the factory (very good with boost) and the pre 1998 sephia has been using the 1.8 liter motor from the protege. So hyundai and kia has not really been making their own motors until mid-late 90s. Hyundai had close ties with Mitsubishi and Kia had close ties with Mazda.
