Spy Shots: Chevy HHR SS

The black-and-white checkered tape job is but a formality and will soon enough be removed to reveal a deep front air dam that shields the intercooler required for the 2.0-liter turbo Ecotec underhood. While there's no confirmation this 260-hp powerplant will be the mill of choice for the HHR SS, it's an extremely likely candidate. The only other prominent body mods being made to the HHR for SS duty are running boards that create a sill between the front and rear fenders and much larger exhaust tip out back. These particular spy shots were snapped in Germany at the Nürburgring, where the HHR SS mule was about to take a few laps.

I like it better than the PTCruiser turbo, and at least it is a SS with actual performance upgrades. The grill looks much better without the chrome. Still waiting for the Aveo SS!!!!!!!!

any one else catch that...
does it mean it may have a suspension to go with the power... my grand parents drive a hhr and its a great car for them... but there is a lot to be made up in the suspension world if they want to market it agianst the imports...mazda/honda/scion/nissan/vw... good luck to them i hope they get it right.

Chevy? Get a suspension right?
The only car that Chevy produces with a decent suspension is the Corvette.

Gawd, I don't know what to say. What does this mean for the prospects at GM if they are spending time modding this car?

Why would they put the turbo engine in the hhr and not the cobalt? Should be the other way around. Give the hhr extra low end with the supercharged engine, and give the "tuner" cobalt the 260 hp turbo.

I am sure they will have a huge sale number in London.
About time for them to do a major upgrade over there.

From what i have heard, in 08 or 09 they are putting the turbo ecotec into the cobalt SS.

Torsion bar in back? Worthless without a real independent suspension in the rear.
It's just a fat PT cruiser. Why in the world would you copy that?

Look at the sales of the PT, then you'll know why. And the HHR sales, but older people buy them.

They gotta do something about those funny looking square like wheel wells, makes the wheels look tiny. If it was at the 'Ring, they are obviously trying to make this thing a good complete car, suspension included. Chevy could just test this thing anywhere, but if they are at the 'Ring, they gotta have some good reasons.
