As I drove over the P5 I did speed by it..... P5 can't keep up to my 5MT. I even bring it to Mazda 3 Sport dudes.... yup We rock

I think it goes like this.

p5, 5, 3.

Well the 5 and 3 GT got the same engine. The 5 is probably a little heavier thant the 3. And I think the 2.3l engine wasn't available in the P5.

So as far as it goes, the 5 should be quicker than the P5 and a 3GS. But don't go head to head with a 3GT, as the 3GT sportier config + lighter weight would win.

Add in the additional drag from the increased height of the 5 and the 3GT would probably show the 5 it's taillights before 1/8th of a mile. I love this discussion, it reminds me of my old LS1GTO.com days :)

I dont remeber if it was Motor Trend or C&D but they put the Mazda5 0.3 tenths behind the 3. Reasoning? The mazda5 has a diffrent fuel/timing map. It has more power faster, but is down 3hp at peak to the 3. Maybe the 3 guys should try throwing in a 5 ecm. (peep)

maybe off topic but i smoked a matrix xr today... a car and fender. i also tried it against a 6 (non v6 of course) and it was pretty close.

absolutely. Though I was pleasantly surprised in the poise of the Mazda5 when I autocrossed one at zoom zoom live.. soo much fun :)

that was the fun part... they see a sliding door and think uhmm i can mess with this dude in a minivan.. but to their surprise... this dude is keeping up with me... (but to clear it up i don't race it or drive it stupid with my kids with me) just for fun, to see the look on their faces..(omg)


not to start any war with the protege owners, they are slow.... almost anything can smoke em.. there was even a time, true story, the small $19.99 uhaul truck beat it... this was when i was a honda dude (still is don't get me wrong)... and i was there i was a passenger in the truck... from light to light i think we got it by a fender... it was pretty funny.(peep)

I used to drive a 5MT Protege5 and now I drive a 4AT Mazda5. The Protege5 would totally own the Mazda5 with just driving in everyday city traffic. It just takes a downshift and a blip of the throttle and I have immediate access to engine power. The Mazda5 4AT's throttle responsiveness is no match for a 5MT P5.

But I did it for the wife who wants to drive our 4AT.

I wish I could find a short shifter and some stiffer bushings, because I think the 5 shifter is looser and sloppier than a 42 year old Vegas whore.

I've tried to search, but I can't spell in Japanese.

Can't say I've dealt with that. All the ones I drive are brand new, but that 1-2 shift is smooth like butter. Triple cone synchros ftw
