I scheduled my oil change today, I asked the service writer about putting in synthetic and she said that it was a waste as they used semi-syn anyway. I trust these guys as they have never steered me wrong in the past. Is this standard for Mazda? (Canada) I'm going to ask about the brand tomorrow so that I can keep a bottle on hand, just in case. I don't really like mixing brands of oil. I know it's not really a big deal but that's my preference.

I would not use full synthetic till you have at least 8,000 miles on your car.

I switched to Mobil 1 at 6k miles. First free from the dealer I did at 3k, Mobil 1 at 6k, 10k, and now I'll do it ever 5k from here out. 6k was enough time for conventional oil. Plus if they use semi-syn from the factory.....or was that just what the dealer uses?

just found out that my local dealer uses "Castrol Syntec blend" for their oil changes (purchased in bulk of course!)
