View Full Version : How soon do you want reliability info on the CX-7?

Because existing sources of auto reliability information left much to be desired, in late 2005 I started conducting my own reliability research at TrueDelta.com (http://www.truedelta.com). TrueDelta reports absolute stats like "trips to the shop" that make the differences between cars much clearer. Results are updated four times a year, so any significant changes in a model's reliability become apparent quickly.
Thanks to the help of this forum and its members, for which I am very grateful, we've been providing info on the 2007 CX-7 for a while now. But more participants would still be helpful, especially for the 2008 and up. Not enough participants yet for those years.
Participants simply report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, at the end of each quarter.
To encourage participation, panel members receive full access to the results for free.

Thanks.
I'm going to include the CX-7 in the survey email that will go out tomorrow afternoon (EST). Nine are signed up currently. More would be helpful.

Current counts:
2007 - 58
2008 - 6
While more 2007s would still be very helpful, badly need more 2008s. I'd like to be able to say ASAP whether or not reliability has improved in the second model year.

The 2008 wasn't in the February results. Hopefully May. Need more participants for that year. More 2007s would also be helpful.

The previous post remains all too accurate. Currently we're likely to have results for the 2008 CX-9, but not for the 2008 CX-7.
Need more participants for both years, but especially the 2008.

Thanks, I appreciate it.
Updated results for the 2007 later this week. Still too few 2008s for a result for the current year.
Additional participants always helpful.

Those results have been posted.
After some initial problems last year, the repair rate for the CX-7 appears to have improved to about average.
Next update in August. Additional participants needed, especially for the 2008.

That August update has been posted. The repair rate of the 2007 continues to be average, maybe a little better.
The repair rate for the 2008 might be much better than average, but the sample size is too small to be conclusive.
Need more participants, especially for the 2008.

It's been three months, so the results have been updated again.
The reported repair rate for the 2007 CX-7 continues to improve.
Repair rates, in terms of successful repair trips per 100 vehicles per year:
2007: 36, better than average
2008: no repairs reported yet, but small sample size
Additional participants needed, especially for the 2008 and 2009.

Results have been updated again. After starting out high, the repair rate of the 2007 Mazda CX-7 has steadily improved, and is now better than average.
For the 2008 we have only 17 responses, which is not enough for a full result. However, it is notable that none of these 17 owners has reported a single repair yet.
With additional participants we could provide full results for all model years.
TrueDelta now has a separate results page for each model. The one of the Mazda CX-7:

In a few weeks we'll start previewing the next set of results to participants. With more participants, we could provide everyone with information on more model years.

We have updated results for the CX-7 to include owner experiences through March 2009. In terms of successful repair trips per 100 cars per year:
2008: 8, better than average
2007: 68, about average
Seems that the issues with the 2007 were ironed out in the first model year.
A big thanks to this forum and everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in August and November. With more participants, we could provide more precise information and cover all model years.

hmm I can't really report the repairs since Mazda refuses to fix them on the throttle body, however they are finally replacing my turbo that is smoking.

We have updated results for the CX-7 to include owner experiences through June 2009. In terms of successful repair trips per 100 cars per year:
2008: 20, better than average
2007: 55, about average
A big thank you, once again, to Antoine, this forum, and everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in November and February. With more participants, we could provide more precise information and cover all model years.
Especially need 2009s and 2010s.
