Much like every other enthusiast in the world, there's a list of vehicles that never made it to our shores, yet we're compelled to lust from afar. Ever since we stumbled across a World Rally Championship race at an impressionable age, the Lancia Delta Integrale has made that list.

Back in the late 80s and early 90s, the Delta dominated the WRC, with over 40 victories and six Constructors Championships under its belt. Much like every other gravel-bound racer, its beginnings were more pedestrian rather than performer and the adaptation to rally duty involved adding four-wheel drive, throwing a turbo onto the 1.6L engine and fashioning a rear diff that borrowed heavily from McLaren's F1 developments.

With that lineage in mind, we were excited to find out that the Italian automaker plans on unveiling a new Delta concept during the Biennale del Cinema di Venezia next week in its home country.

According to various web reports (http://autoinsight.it/blog/?p=185) and 4Car (http://www.channel4.com/4car/news/news-story.jsp?news_id=15121&cntsrc=rss_4car_News_15121), the new Delta HPE will be underpinned by a Fiat chassis and will sport either a turbocharged 1.4-liter producing 120-150 hp or a 1.8-liter, turbo'd mill producing upwards of 190 hp. That's all find and dandy, but the real news is that Lancia will produce a new Integrale that is set to take on the Mitsubishi Evolution X, Subaru WRX and forthcoming Nissan GT-R in the U.K.

Although its doubtful we'll ever seen the Lancia brand on this side of the world, it will be interesting to see how this newest Integrale will perform against the titans of turbocharged, all-wheel-drive performance abroad.

Follow the jump to see the object of our pre-pubescent, gravel pocked desires.

Umm, are you kidding? That model looks like an Alfa. Quite sexy yet angry at the same time.

Unless you are talking about the 80's rally racer, then I fully agree with you.

No I'm not kidding. It is sexy and angry but the grille is ugly to me.

Honestly I have to say that while I'm not crazy about hte face, it does strike me as unique and attention getting in a good way. Something we're not used to seeing on these shores. I love the Lancia Stratos and if this makes it to production I think it will be a contender. It will need soem more juice though. Overall it looks like it might be the avant garde thinking mans hot AWD hatch.
