I had ours up to 110mph the other day and it felt like I was doing 60mph, very stable I must say. In my Z, I do 140mph almost every day I get off work.(glare)

(omg) What, are you serious. That's:bs: on Mazda
I'm gonna have to check on that one. 117mph sounds too soon.
My car speedo says 160mph and I've been told that it cuts off at 157mph. I've done 140mph on it.

So if we can't do more than 120, why stick a guage on that goes to 140? Would much more perfer to have additional markings within the normal driving limits.

I don't know to call BS on 135 or not it would seem no one really knows the top speed of this car/truck/wagon thing :)
Every where from stops at 117 to goes to 140. Oh well I am sure you all will enjoy your jelly beans. (enguard)(glare)(enguard)

I backed out of it at 110. I don't need much more, but I feel warm and cozy knowing it's there if I want or need it.

Dang Spike you are getting kinda touchy :)
I never said you were lying. Some sites said it was 140 top speed and some others said 120. I know on some vehicles they used to limit certain models according to tires vr had a higher limit than sr etc.
Way better or worse than my soon to be 300WHP MSP is all a matter of taste.
No need to get all riled up. (shocked)

Why is everybody obsessed with a 117mph governor? When is it ever necessary to travel at speeds higher than 117mph? Especially in an SUV (even if it's both a crossover and a Mazda).

i guess because i was so use to driving over 200km+ on my talon.. when i needed too.. most likely wont be doing it that often on the cx-7, but it would feel nice to not have a restriction on my car.

Nothing you can do about the limiter yet as no one has cracked the ECU yet.

It is weird becuase I have hit 120-130mph then the car becomes like non responsive i hit the gas pedal and nada not to mention it feels like you went over a small bump on the road then the mph drops to 100 then I can hit the gas pedal again. weird I will try to mount dash cam and take quicktime movie

I don't think it would go any faster than about 130 with the limiter removed anyway.

No way in hell I'm going 110-120 mph on Eagle RSA tires in an SUV. hahaha.
Hell, my days of going those speeds on public roads even in a sports car are probably over... not worth the risk.

Mine touched 120 but at those speeds, gauges become inaccurate so I would guess it touched the 117 governor. Only reason why I know its governed is because it would slow down then downshift, get back up to speed and then upshift and slow down again...tell tale sign of a governor. 135mph is BS. Unless there is a tune I don't know about...

Speaking of which anyone know what are the tire speed rating that comes with our cars? I know some have diff tires I cant recall what mine are too lazy to go outside.
By the way I love how the car hugs to the road surface man this car is fun to drive. Want more Ponies under the hood though

Exactly. I know I've read a couple of articles saying the Porsche speedo gets really optimistic at the high end. Something like 10 or 15 mph high.
Car speedos are legally allowed to be off by +-3% so at those speeds actually going 117 and the speedo reading 120 is still legally accurate.

I'm curious to know just where you guys are driving at those speeds. 140 on the way from work?? At that excessive speed arent you putting yourself and other people on the road at risk of a major accident?

I got going 120 down a hill and it got all non-responsive till I slowed down to 100.
Find L O N G roads with some nice curves and a few straight-aways. zoom-zoom.

Please do not start another one of those speeding on public roads threads, there are 1000's already on the Internet for you to read.

Well, my Garmin GPS StreetPilot 2720 touched 116.5, then went to 117. The electronic nanny backed down the throttle, even though my foot was still to the floor. There is definitely a factory limit for some reason.
Where? I-24, between Exits 25 and 16, westbound.
Why? Because I wanted to, and my '97 Miata Chick-Mobile will hit 125 on the same stretch, measured the same way.
When? Not long ago.
Oh. And the transfer case seals failed not long afterward. I wonder if there's a connection...

Score one for the FWD's out there.
I live in Vegas...lots and lots of desert around me with people driving along every 10 to 20 minutes. Pretty easy to do a top speed run out here.

My transfer case seals failed and I've never approached anywhere near those speeds... and now while waiting for the new seals I have to put up with the absolutely disgusting smell of diff. fluid after getting off the highway. (birthday)

Yeah, it does stink, doesn't it? My dealer thought it was engine oil for a while, and it does smell like burning Mobil1 (don't ask me how I know what that smells like), so it took a while to find the leak.

Have they fixed yours yet? I'm still waiting for the new seals... on back order apparently.

Yes. It took about a week, but they did get it fixed. There was a problem with the oxygen sensor stuck in the catalytic converter/exhaust pipe/somewhere, and subsequently broken, but they replaced whole unit with a new one. Very happy with the dealer who fixed it, which was not the one where I bought it.
