View Full Version : Stupid oil filter question
Ok, dumbest question ever.
Where the heck is the oil filter on the MSP? I couldn't see it from up above, and I just wanna know where to look and how hard/easy it is to get at.
I did a search, but couldn't narrow it down to anything relevant that answered my question.
You need to go under the car to see it.

How much oil? I'm not familiar with engine codes yet, is the MSP an FS?
How much oil what? You need to change oil?
Yes, MSP is an FS.
yeah, gonna do a whole oil change. So it looks like 3.5 liters for oil and filter replacement on the MSP. Mobil1 synthetic ok?

MSP engine is FS-DET
filter is under the engine, facing the firewall, above the right halfshaft
the engine requires 4qt of oil per oil change, which i guess equates 3.5L in metric units, damn you metric units lol
Thanks for all the help! It's a little bit of a learning curve going from something I had for years to something new and figuring out where everything is.

Go easy with putting the oil in till you see how much it takes. For whatever reason, mine has never taken more than 3.2 quarts or so, even with a filter change. And no, my oil pan is not caved in! Weirdness.
Oh, and you'll see the filter from underneath, above the passengers side "half shaft". You might want to have a cap wrench for our filters handy, in case yours is overtorqued or stubborn. The first time I went to change mine I didn't have the right sized cap wrench and wound up having to drive a screwdriver through the filter to bust it loose. Cheap insurance against a stuck filter.

When you are putting the oil back in I would fill it to the "Full" line on the dipstick, then crank the car and let it idle for 10-15 seconds to get the oil circulating. Then let it sit for a minute to let the oil drain back into the pan. Check the level again and fill it back to the "Full" line. Then add another .5 quart. There is enough room for the pan to hold the extra oil and it's just added insurance against oil starving the motor under hard cornering which has claimed more than a handful of FS motors.
