Would this setup even be considered for a replacement of the stock SMIC ?

would there be any benefits to it? or would just to hard to install ?

mass benefits, mass issues as well.

water can cool your incoming charge air to LOWER than ambient. an air to air intercooler can only reduce temps to a percentage above ambient (i.e. 100% efficiency will lower temps to ambient). 100% is impossible to achieve.
water is difficult to cool. once the liquid is hot, you have the issue of cooling it back down. many people use a tank with ice water, but ice water can stay ice water for only so long. eventually, you will be using hot water to cool your charge air.

weigh the pros and cons and make your decision. i have a mental fmic, because i cannot heat up the ambient air past the ambient temp with my charge air. i feel that air to air is better for daily driving.
