I am definitaly NOT an audio person. I have no experience and dont know what i am talking about... and that is why i am coming here. I have been hearing a vibration/rattle coming from the passenger door speaker when i turn my radio up. It only happens when there is a lot of bass. I know this isnt good since its not coming from the driver door speaker. So whats my problem and what should i do. If i need to replace the speaker... i might as well replace both. Any remondations???
BTW- i have a 2000 protege DX

In my last vehicle (2000 Dodge Dakota) I installed a set of Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1 components. I would by those again any day of the week. I don't know the stock size of our speakers, though, so IDK if they'd even fit.
God I miss my truck,
but I LOVE my MP5
EDIT---The Kappa Perfects will fit (see Sticky in this sub-Forum)...!
Now...How to buy them without the wife knowing

I'd say buy these. They are a direct fit for your car, and you can just plug in the connector to the stock wiring. I have the MP3 front and rears and they were a huge improvement over stock.

Either the speaker is blown or you have something floating around in your door...but it is probably the speaker and the cone has separated from the basket.
There are lots of good speakers out there. I believe the 2000 Protege has 5x7/6x8 speakers in the front. Go to a couple local shops, tell them what you drive and have them play some reasonably priced speakers for you. They all sound a little different so pick the ones that sound good to you. It is best to bring a CD with you of your favorite songs.

I found these on eBay. They look good but does anyone know if they will just plug right in where the existing speakers are?

Yes, they should drop right in. You will have to cut the factory wiring harness connector off the end and splice on new terminators to connect them.

Cool man! They are very easy to install, just make sure you take all the screws out before you try to remove the door panel, and be careful with the door latch (two things I didn't do :()
Edit: You got a cluster with tach for $60?? That's a great deal, I paid 3x as much.

now that you install new speakers on the front, you will probably end up doing it on the rear too, because you will hear the difference in sound quality ;)

No, you just turn off the rear speakers because they are crap and kill the sound stage.

do you mean all rear speakers in general, chuyler1? or just these stock ones(which I agree with)

My statement applies to all rear speakers, especially ones mounted in the rear doors. The rear door mounting location only pulls the stage down and back. Sometimes rear speakers on the rear deck can help raise the sound stage (when done right) and they can usually add to bass a little better (6x9s specifically).

I had a component setup in my 240, and it made me realize that I like surround sound too much. I am fine with the front and rear Kenwoods from a MP3 plus my sub for now.

I would replace all of your speakers in your car before moving to subs. usualy, you dont want to go cheap on subs. i use mtx 10 inch 6000s. 3 of em. they are very under powered though with the amp I use. Its really based on what you want. DO you want a big booming system that breaks windows and makes your rear view mirror fall off? or do you want a system that has some good bass, but not really loud?

I'd like to have a system with good bass... no booming sounds that shake the car and break windows....
BTW- if anyone has info on how to remove the door panel when i install the new speakers... i would greatly appreciate it... thanks...
