I bought a OEM MS shift knob off of ebay last week and got it today only the find out that it doesnt fit the stock shifter in my car. Is there an adapter i need or something? I looked at the bottom of the stock shifter and it doesnt seem to have any removeable pieces.....so at this point im pretty much lost. any help would be great....

The MS shifter doesn't fit the stock shifter? What exactly are you trying to do? Are you saying it doesn't fit in spot where the stock shifter was?

are you looking at the bottom of the shifter inside the car or under the car? because it has to be removed by unbolting it from underneath

I think you have to saw off the silver part right below where the knob itself ends. There's another thread on this somewhere but don't remember.

yeah, the threading is different on the 2 shifters, so you'll need to find another way to get it on

I have the shift lever out of a MSP in my P5 and it is awesome. I bought it used here on the forums a while back and have no regrets at all.
It bolts up and installs the same as the stock P5 shifter except it's shorter and you can use the nicer (IMO) MSP shift knob.
I initially had the TWM short shift kit and hated how stiff it was. I preferred a smooth, easy shift over a shorter throw so I bought the MSP shift lever knowing it would be slightly shorter.
Just my $0.02 but other than heavily modifying the stock P5 shift lever, installing a MSP shift lever is the only way to use either of the two Mazdaspeed shift knobs (I've got the yellow, black, and silver one that says "Mazdaspeed" on it, not the Sparco knob).

thanks for all the imput guys.....looks like i should have done more research on this before going hog wild on ebay.....well. i was thinking of gettin same shift knob. but i believe it would still work if you could find a rbber adapter or insert. like one you would get frm a short shifter kit. it shouldn't be a prob . i have installed like three different shift knob since i bought my b&m shoftshifter. and i have had no prob with it. i dont know guys can u correct me on this.? i am not sure. and i would like to know . if one can go by just finding a rubber adapter that i speak of???
thanks in advance

I don't like that shift knob... I think its kinda ugly
I have this MazdaSpeed RX-8 shift knob on a B&M s/s
It's weighted :D

that rx8 knob is sex! but a wieghted knob is what it says, the knob is heavier. some ppl like the feel of them some dont.

The weighted knob makes it MUCH easier to shift with a short shifter as it adds more leverage :D I hated the stock shift knob with a passion, it's about as heavy as a golf ball compared to the speed rx-8 knob which weighs more than a pool ball.

The P5 has the same stock shifter as the sedan. While the threading is the same, the sedan/P5 one has a thick metal piece that juts out below the threads, while the MSP does not. I don't have any pictures right now but I compared my stock shifter to a P5 and they were the same. Just get a MSP or aftermarket shifter if you want the MSP knob. I swapped mine for a MSP shifter and knob after I found out the hard way the MSP knob wouldn't fit stock. :(
