Alright well my p5 has never been into the the dealer to be serviced or anything, I do my own oil changes, etc, etc. It has about 35,000 miles now and instead of getting like 320 miles on a tank of gas, it is more like 265 now. Grant it I live in Arizona so the a/c is on all the time but it shouldnt decrease mileage by that much. My e-brake light is also on most of the time but does not appear to be enguaged. I had to change my rear pads because they were almost gone and the front pads are still ok. Shouldn't the front pads wear more? My hypothisis: the e-brake is not totally disenguaging which is causing the brake light and the pads to wear quicker and making the motor work harder which in turn decreases gas mileage. Any thoughts or comments would be great.

the brake light is not only an e-brake light it will also come on when there is a problem with the brake system. the e brake could be slightly engaged but when i have had an issue with that i would usually notice a burning smell because the constant friction at the higher speeds. when you did your brakes did you use the hex screw in the back of the calipers to adjust piston?

I believe there is a TSB about the rear brakes sticking...

The brake light also comes on if there is a problem with an ABS sensor (if you have ABS).
For the mileage issue, check your EGR valve.

Yeah, when I did my pads I did adjust the screw in the back for the piston. The light went away for a few weeks but started comming back on again. Should I adjust again? The fluid level is fine and I also thought it might be the abs sensor too. Now In my old neon the brakes never locked up but I actually have locked these up twice which puzzled me because I did not think they would lock. Going off the idea that it is a sensor, what about the gas mileage? EGR valve maybe? I should see if we have a mazda adaptor for the computer reader at work.

how many miles on the spark plugs? Using OEM or some fancy ones? also, is the gas station you go to a scary dump?
1) OEM plugs ftw. If never replaced, do it, takes 5 minutes.
2) shitty gas stations may have bad gas, a tank that is corroding and has lots of crap floating in it, gunking up the filter.

Yea I pulled the plugs and they looked fine, they are the origional plugs. I never go to crapy gas stations either. The motor runs fine as well. Thanks to all for all the responces so far by the way, it is greatly appreciated.

Did your area gas supply just go from straight shit to the ethanol blend like ours did recently?
