I'm in canada and was wondering where i can find a sirius satellite radio that mazda sells as an accessory. And also how much would it cost? Thanks for the help.

I imagine you could buy it online at a mazda vendor. It will run you $305 new (that's shipped price in the US). Check www.onlinemazdaparts.com. Jason is the webmaster and is a great help.

Is this the one that adds right on to the factory unit?? I just bought an 06 GT that came prewired for Sirius, just havent looked into adding it yet, I have an XM unit but dont like having an plug in hangin onto the dash looks tacky plus sounds like crap..on top of that XM sucks

The one I was talking about is the OEM unit that plugs into the stock HU. fyi, all mazda HUs are sirius ready.

I realize you said you don't like XM, but it is possible to do this with an aftermarket unit, and just run it in through an aux. input.

Could you elaborate please? I already have XM in my other car, and I'll get the 2nd car subscription cheaper if I use XM. I'm planning on getting an ms3 soon, so is it possible to use the pre-wiring in the car for an xm unit and have full use through the head unit? No wires? Or do xm and sirius have proprietary hookups and therefore are not compatible.

Okay I can see how that's confusing. XM and sirius have proprietary hookups, so you can't buy an OEM chrysler XM receiver and plug it into the mazda unit.

What I mean by an aftermarket unit is one that comes with a receiver, antenna, and seperate control unit with LCD. For instance the sirius starmate (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-0cQGBNczT1i/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?wm=fp&I=607ST2&g=247350).

All of these aftermarket units have built in FM transmitters, and audio outputs (usually a 3.5mm jack). If you got one of these you could try out the transmitter, and if you're unsatisfied with that then you could get an aux. input to your stereo. Look HERE (http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123634459) for a list of audio input options for the 3. You'd be looking at ~$60 at the cheapest, up to $150 or so for a direct input. The upside to one of these units is you can take it out of the car and use it somewhere else, connected to your home stereo for instance. That way you get more out of your subscription. The down side is you can't control it with the OEM HU controls, and you have to have this second HU control somewhere. I just helped a friend install a starmate in their 3 the other day. It fits perfectly in the open mouth of the ashtray compartment (not mounted, just wedged) and she can hide it inside, or disconnect it and remove it very easily. She's using the transmitter right now, and I was surprised at how clearly and well it worked.

Thanks for the info! I figured the hookups were proprietary, but was hoping. I have a separate XM unit that I could use in this way, I just want to have no wires showing. I'll look into options and where I could put it, where you did it sounds like a great idea. Thanks.
