So there are TONS of BOMZ intakes for sale on ebay for around $50 shipped. Everyone I look online the other brands are a couple hundred each. So whats with this price. Just a crappy intake that will do nothing for me? Or are they decent?

Also...noob question of the day...what purpose does that red bar that runs across the top of my engine serve? Just better stability on corners? I've always been a fan of cars, but it's never gone much deeper than the surface...

I dont know about those.
I got an "x3 racing" one.
As far as the intake, its fine- its just a tube. But you will absoluetly need a better filter, which will add $50 to the price.
Intakes in general are not huge upgrades. But an easy starter thing- plus they sond cool. I would guess that you will get as much gain from a ebay cold air/ k & n filter than you would from a aem/injen intake.

There are about 3089353923.6 threads about the ebay intakes. mainly, little to no HP gains for ebay and name brand. If you need a silly CARB sticker, ebay intakes do not come with one. Nobody has done a dyno-test proven comparison between the name brand and ebay intakes. The ebay ones you listed are SRI, Injen is a CAI, which goes in the fender. There were ebay CAI ones, but I have not seen them in forever.
The only risk with CAI intakes is hydrolocking the engine by sucking in water. That sucks.
I have had the ebay SRI intake with a K&N filter for 3 years now. Zero problems whatsoever. None of the reported issues at all. If mounted properly the SRI will not rub the brake master cylinder. I did not mount it properly, so my fault, it rubbed a little.
Good bang for the buck, sounds cool, but little to no power gains. It does remove a lot of plastic from the engine compartment though.
here is mine installed:

I have an E-bay intake with an AEM filter on it. Works just as good as any and only spent 60 shipped to the door. The intake was 25 and the filter around 35.
