Okay, so the stock '03 P5 stereo doesnt' have RCA ins right? Can't it control a disc changer? I want to keep the stock stereo but have an interface for the iPod. I dont' care if the controls are on the iPod or on the stereo. I just don't want a transmitter, they suck in big cities where I commute. What can I do?

your only options are a fm modulador. unless you have a tape player that you can use to get a signal in, than thats it. the stock head unit doesnt have inputs and it cant control an ipod. or you have swap over to an after market HU. and ps, you posted in the wrong forum;)

you also have the auxmod (http://www.sylfex.com/products/AuxMod/) as an option

Don't do the FM modulator! They suck. Trust me..... Auxmod is incredible and easy. It plugs into the back of the radio. Buy the wire (forget wich size) from radio shack. Run the wire behind the back. I drilled a hold in the cubby hole in front of the shifter. It's kinda retractable.

I know this is 3 years later, but these are hard to find nowadays... is your AuxMod still for sale? Thought I'd give it a try...

Please let me know, thanks!

lux, you can also try grom audio.

I had one in my protege5 before i put it in my miata.

it charges while it plays. big bonus for me and my long drives

definitely go with the grom audio device, plugs into the back of the stereo, and charges your ipod and u can change the songs from both the ipod and stock head unit. basically its everything you would want without going aftermarket.

The grom mp3 kit uses either usb sticks or a 3.5mm audio jack.

They also make a plug that goes into the antenna jack. You plug in a 1/8" jack and the antenna into the converter and then plug the converter into the head. I saw it at best buy before i decided to just get a pioneer. Can't think of what the antenna jack is called...

sweet, a 3.5mm will work! this looks good, cheaper than a new head unit. the skipping cd's suck, but i will try a slower burn rate, and if that fails, i can just stop using cd's altogether. i really don't want a new head unit.

I'm gonna buy a new head that is digital only. no cd's to deal with!

Grom has a list of compatible devices on their website. I have one in my P5 with a stock CD player and it works great. Sound quality is excellent. I usually use it with my nano, but have put my 3g phone on it as well. It will play but gives me an incompatibily message for the chager so it won't charge. Should work with the first gen phones though. It's a really nice unit.
