My stock Kenwood doesnt work anymore- I have only 42K on my car with the stock system- even though i work car audio install for circuit city i have never bothered yet to upgrade it.... looking to know if anyone else has any opinions of what to do from here- do i want to bother getting that same unit??? (even though i like the features) or should i upgrade? has anyone else had lots of problems with this unit??? my faceplate just flips out like it needs to eject something (even though its empty) and just sits that way and wont do a damn thing.

You could try and fix it yourself if you think you're up to it.

Press the reset button, and it will magically come back to life :D

And if it doesn't, consider yourself lucky. It's not hard to find an easier to use and more powerful head unit than those Kenwoods.

This has happened to a shi*load of people. Myself included. If you really like the head unit and still have warrantee to get it fixed, go for it. If not just Upgrade it would be cheaper. Plus you work Audio Install so it would be a joke for you to do it yourself. I got mine done only because it was under Warrantee. The problem with that is, the Kenwood unit in the MSP is no longer in production, so you get a re-furbished unit, and with that, you're looking at less life in the new HU. Crutchfield has always been generous to me with quality products I would check that out.

I just had mine replaced under warranty about a month or so ago. Seems that those units decide to go bonkers on quite a few of our cars...if it goes out again after the warranty, then I'll look at upgrading to a different unit. Other than the fact that it went wonky and got stuck halfway flipped and had to be replaced, I'm happy with the features it has...

The MSP warranty is 48mos/48Kmi so if you are under that, take it to the dealership. Otherwise, read this thread for more information...

I've joined the "flipped open, and won't reset" club.
Dealer says I won't have another deck for a month.

Ah, the innocence of the newbie. Trust me, man, this will continue to be a problem for you. The reason these decks crap out is because of the ribbon cable between the faceplate and the headunit. It wears out after flipping over a few hundred (thousand?) times. Get a new HU and save yourself the torture.
