interesting. That will definatly be super-unique. Can't wait to see pics! I'm still crying myself to sleep every night since I had 300 bux stolen from me that was going to go towards that sekzy hood of his. Looks like I won't be getting it now unless I get lucky and no one snatches it up soon. Get that trunk done and lets see some pics soon please...

I know, I know ... I'm going to hear it from a few people after my anti-cf rants  I will say that my cf additions will be functional, save weight and be mostly painted. But damn does this thing look good in the buff ...

Are you just going to use one? That is what I did...

I'm going to start with that. I use my trunk every day so I have reservations about taking them both out. We'll see - I may even fab up a gas strut.

Just remember that painting your cf adds 10 pounds to it.......................

So don't do it. Black + Blue = el sexo.

No problemo ... I'll just add some "type R" stickers to offset the weight.

Black + Blue = el sexo.

Word on that. I gotta few tricks up my sleave ... :)

Yes...I have found it is the best happy medium:
No springs: Trunk pops, lifts up easily, does not want to stay up (actually "feels" heavy, even though is not in reality)
One spring: Trunk pops, lifts up easily, stays all the way up on its own
Two springs: Trunk flies up, and takes force to shut

When using one spring, be warned, it may make your trunk sit slightly crooked, since there is pressure on one side but not the other. Good luck!

No springs here....good purchase....paint it if you dont have a cf hood, but love the look of it painted if you keeping the stock hood. (thumb)

Thanks! We'll see how my vision pans out. Got the trunk mounted up today and it will be a few weeks before I bring it in for paint. I had a couple small issues, but nothing some fine tuning and a trip to Home Depot wont fix. One notable observation ... the cf trunk didn't feel that much lighter than my steel oem sans wing. I'm going to experiment with some tortion rods from the sedan w/out the wing.

the only problem I see with that is that there's not a real sharp body line to tape off at... it's going to be a little difficult to pull off well

I agree it wil be difficult but can be done with proper taping and really precise wetsanding and buffing. Believe me, I've use to do this often when I painted cars and the outcome varied. With a black car it is even more difficult but I'm guessing with the blue mica is will be less noticable.

sweet, let me know. is it actually a different part number for a non-winged Protege?

Yes. The MSP ones are meant to deal with the added weight of the wing. Here's some part #'s for the non-winged lids.

Torsion rods left and right: B25D52791C / B25D52792C - $19.16 ea.
The white clip I broke that attaches them in the middle :): BC1M56894C - $2

Bump for updates regarding torsion rods.

Still waiting on trunk hardware from Xcelerated Concepts to take the next step. I won't install the rods with a loose trunk latch (boom03) I talked to Joe today and he said it's on the way ... I will post results here, stay tuned.

I have heard THAT before...not a dig on you, rather XC. The customer service for these trunks is quite a bit slower than you would think it needs to be. Here I am, likely to go to Iraq soon, and my trunk (which I ordered in May) still does not wear an acceptable latch cover...

It is obvious that the latch cover has been a problem. I'am also latchless here too.

Guys... replacements were sent! I found out yesterday that something happened during shipping to 3 of these replacements that went out, yours was unfortantely one of these. I resent all of them AGAIN yesterday, and I'm working with the courier to find out what happened to the previous ones.

I am PM'ing you proof that another one went out yesterday to you! You can reply here after you read the PM.

Actually, my main issue is that I stripped out one of the "u-clips" that act as anchors for the bolts. Specifically one that holds the latch in the release mechanism, so I don't want to put any additional pressure on this area with the tortion rods until this is addressed.
