yeah, it's most likely that you are low or out of freon (or however you spell it), I think that stuff is pretty pricey to replace if I can recall correctly.

has anybody done this "service" themselves or could direct me into a direction where i would be able to find out more info? thanks

I doubt (depending on the age of your car) whether you actually use freon. The stuff hasn't been available to average people for quite a while now. Cars since 1995 don't use it.

doesnt autozone and like pep boys have A/C recharge cans?

ditto

Don't think so, and if they do, it's not freon. That stuff was eating a hole on the ozone layer, and the EPA outlawed it, and quintupled the cost of recharging your a/c system.

I know this just sounded like the ramblings of some lunatic in a soft wall place, but look it up.

EEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR............wrong answer.

"freon" is simply cloriflormethane producs, whether it be R-12,134-A,R-22,freeze 12......no matter if it has clorafloracarbons or not.

yes, they have "recharge cans".......but,you can't just add it.

you have to evacuate what you have, then apply vaccum to the system, then wiegh the correct amout in,to much the highpresure cutoff will stop the system,as well as to little,if you don't have a HP cutoff, you will damage the pump.

I tried to recharge it myself and either did it wrong or there is something else wrong 'cuz it still blows HOT.

EDIT: Now I see why it probably didn't work...(notcool)

what the outlawed was clorafloracarbons (CFC's),and it's what was found in the stuff used at the time(R-12)it cost a lot to add, because it's not produced anymore.

but you can use freeze-12,or retrofit to 134-A

but this dosen't matter if he has a MSP,because he already has 134-A

OK - I got upped by a combination chemistry professor and HVAC technician. (shocked) (I slept through chemistry)

What I do know is that there was a change in the mid 90's, and that the average guy can't do it any more without a lot of bs.

This maybe a stupid answer but do you have it on recirculate? The AC is colder when its on that, it's cooling already cooled air.

Then pleeeeez tell the guy to bring it to you, and not to screw it up any worse than it already is.(headbang)

btw - I remember (vaguely) the fuss, and Yes there is a vast government conspiracy

ALL cars now run 134-A(which is what is in the cans at autozone). They stopped using R-12 because it was killing the ozone layer. All you need is a hose and put it on the high side of the system (which is the fitting closest to the compressor i believe). When i recharged my system all I did was bought a couple cans of the stuff and put it in. It worked fine. You will need a quick release hose to add the freon, they sell those at Autozone too. My dad is a HVAC technician he knows all this stuff. R-12 is still avialble but only to licensed HVAC people, and its like $500 for one of the big drums.

Jiffy Lube will recharge the system for you if you want to do that. It shouldnt cost you to much since you wont need R-12.

2001 Olds Alero's use freon for their AC. My friend got his replaced because the same thing happened to him, to AC stopped working, and it costed like $800.

then take it to a professional, not the drop-outs/tweekers at jiffy-lube.
it's not that expensive,I charge $30 for the service + the 134-A,most cars take about 2 LBS.

Just for kicks here...but when I got my P5...the wires that run in the back of the HVAC was all fucked up...(my heat would not work in the winter).
It was a long drawn out process...but that was my issue.
