View Full Version : I love my Mazdaspeed 6!
I am totally ripping an idea from an old Member who sadly isn't here anymore, but this is the official I love my Mazdaspeed 6 thread :)
After living with this car for over a month now, I must say I am really enjoy driving this car. Comfortable, powerful, decent handling, fun to drive etc. But most importantly, the car is completely easy to live with. wtf does that mean? Well one example, often i buy a car, and overtime that great handling suspension I love so much often turns into a rough ride that slowly starts to irritate me. There are no irritations so far with this car. No rattles, no harshness, just smoothness and quality and....
......what kind of f'n bullshit am I writing? I thought I could come up with some beautiful inspiring touching moment here and I got notta! Everything I said is true but booooring :)
Anyways
I LOVE MY MAZDASPEED 6!

Don't forget, this car will only get better once the first snowstorm hits!
I can't wait to try the AWD in snow
I can wait to buy the damn snow tires
I still can't find a set of friggin 17" rims anywhere for winter

Every shop around here tells me it's not a problem to get rims, I'm assuming you want steel ones right?

I thought the car handled awesome until... I tried to keep up on an auto-x track. Now don't get me wrong I LOVE THIS CAR, and it handles just fine on the road. I think the only place that Mazda fell short is in the handling department.
every shop around here looks at me like I'm nuts when I mention 17" steelies. I would have to get them sent in from toronto. I am trying to find a set of Mazda 6 rims first, then I'll settle for steelies if I have to.
If the brakes were just a wee wee bit smaller, 16's would fit and save us a fortune in winter rims. I wonder of the MS3 will be able to take 16's
as for the handling. It's a bit heavy. I'm used to the MSP which was a razor on the road. The MS6 can handle very well, often taking real roads ( ones with those silly things called bumps in them) much better then my MSP. But, the steering is so heavy, and it's a workout to toss this car around in the same manor as the MSP.

Mazda specifically said that this was not a track car. For me this doesn't really matter since I never AutoX. But like you say, the handling could be improved.

just like the mp3. it was awesome fist couple weeks then BAM! clunks and squeeks. never really bothered me though.
my mp3 clunked literally days after I got it. my MSP was fine until 3500kms and then the first clunk happened...
My MS6 is ...knock on wood.... as quiet as can be. No rattles, notta, just solid. Hope it stays that way

I love my MS6 too! And I can hardly wait for my 2nd winter in that black beauty of mine...LOL!

I still Love it! But there are few things I would change if I could.
1. Clutch. It's horrible on hills. I'd also be willing to bet that it has scared a few people off from buying this car. Even experienced drivers have issues with this damn clutch. the Woman hates it.
2. Wheels. The Wheels have grown on me and I do like the Euro look, but I'd be kidding myself if I thought there weren't better looking wheels out there. What is funny though is that some aftermarket wheels I have seen on the car just don't look right for some reason. I also wish they had the 2003.5 MSP finish on them. Imagine, titanium colored, or silver MS6, and those nice wheels....droool.
3. Brake Dust. Holy shit. I've had accords with brake dust issues, but the MS6 is in an entirely different league. We need better brake pads to clear this up before my rims are ruined. I'm scared to even know what the back of my rims look like as I can't clean in there. Good wax helps, but doesn't solve problem by any means.
4. Stereo. I've added a sub, got an audiolink on the way, it sounds much better with a decent sub doing the bass and then turning back the shitty bass on the rest of the speakers helps some clear up some bad mid range bass issues. But, this is only decent for low volumes. Turn that crappy bose up, and it hurts my ears, the mid range is horrible, there are no highs for gods sake, just deafening mids. And why doesn't a $40k have an mp3 player in this day and age anyways?
5. Mazda needs to make a hood deflector for this car before my paint is gone. Not really a problem with the car really, just that the unique hood presents a problem for things like this. I've already got some nice chips. they do make a bra....but what stupid fuck still buys a bra that's only going to be scratch your hood anyways? Of course a FMIC would solve this and use a normal hood.
6. More Consistent boost. I want it to hold boost longer. If the MS3 can do it, why not the ms6?
7. Brakes too big. Well, just a tad overkill if you ask me. Would have been nice to have enough room on the fronts wheels to fit some 16" winter steelies on them. I can imagine replacement cost on these things. Winter wheels are costing me my kidneys!
8. Brighter HIDS. they are a lot brighter then the headlights on my MSP/MP3 where even with PIAA's bulbs in them. But not quite as good as some ACura's or BMW's. Still love them though and I'm being picky here.
9. A little more agressive sound. I don't want it to be loud, just growl a little. Maybe a nice BOV sound, I might fix this myself some day.
10. Drop the car an inch already.
11. I think mazda should have stuck with their normal side skirts and rear bumper. It was more agressive looking. The M6 itself is a nice looking car, and they really could have made it special like a Audi or BMW M series with very little effort....but they didn't. Nuff said.
12. The AWD: I want to be able to adjust between snow/sport/normal modes myself.
13. And what is up with the fake exhaust tips?
14. Ditch the front grill and huge MAzda symbol.

Well even after Nerf's post... I too love my Mazdaspeed6... I think. :)
lol, I am just saying....if I could just change a few little things I would. It's not the Perfect car of all cars, but it's a damn good one and the best one I've owned and driven (for the cost)over the years.

Lol indeed. My gripes are the clutch, it could be a bit more forgiving..and the fall off in power towards the upper RPM. What I do like, this car is simple to look at(mostly), well made comfortable and cabable. I love sleeper type vehicles and this one is almost the perfect example, and makeing a BMW wonder what the crap just happend after a jaunt in the twisties, makes me :D
I LOVE the sleeper thing in this car, god that is so much fun

I hated the clutch initially, but now I don't mind it. I actually kinda like it as it is the only reason I am driving the MS6 rather than the MSP. The MS6 was to be the wife's car (bigger for all the kids she carts around), but she hated the clutch so she opted for the smaller MSP and left me to the bigger, more powerful MS6. Damn, I hate it when that happens.
Actually, I have to remind myself when I do drive the MSP that the clutch is NOT broken, but just that the take-up is so drastically different than the MS6 that I have to re-adjust my driving style each time I switch cars...LOL.

I dont get all the clutch complaints. Every car that I have drivin the clutch has been different from the next. I like this clutch better then some of the others, at least it has a spot on point of engagement. Once you memorize it this manual is tight.(drive)

You know what's weird, is that with all the critics complaining about the suspension on this car, it took me over a month to realize what they were talking about -- first time I threw it around a corner. It exponentially has a more "floaty" feel the harder you push it. It's not that it's unstable, it's just that it's much less responsive at high speed than I would've expected.
And BTW, every day I get in this car I LOVE it!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!! I've had mine for five months now and love it more every day.
I got my audiolink installed...MP3's again thank god. another reason to love the car!
