i want to get the hiboost fmic, but i was wondering if i need to get some type of engine management system to compensate for the extra cooling/air my engine will recieve?? or if it is just plug and play..kind of a noob to the fmic stuff.. thanks

you will not need engine management for just the FMIC, when you start raising the boost, etc you might want to consider it then but not for FMIC alone

Keep in mind that if you are using a blow off valve which blows off to the atmosphere (i.e. doesn't recirculate the air back in the pipes) then you will end up runing really rich. Essentially this set up messes with the MAF and you end up with backfiring, poor gas mileage, and fowled spark plugs.
There are a couple good ways to get around this and still keep the blow off to atmosphere sound. I relocated my MAF to just before the throttle body (search "MAF relocation") and the car runs like a top now.
And yes, I do still recommend an aftermarket a/f computer of some kind to tune the crappy MSP factory tune (that's recommended if you have no mods b/c of the factory MSP tune being so poor).

another question... is a upgraded SMIC worth it being that it is only like 500 instead of 1000 for a fmic.. i might also go that route

if you want to do stock boost or close to stock boost, an SMIC is the way to go. i have many happy customers who have them and love the gains.
