What a surprise

Truly surprising for all people not directly involved in the project, Porsche seems to release a facelift for the current 911-range very shortly, as these pictures of prototypes of the coupé and cabrio – photographed in the U.S. earlier today – prove.
While we can be sure that the normal 911 coupé and the soft-top will receive the facelift, it remains uncertain whether or not the makeover will as well be done to the brand-new 911 Turbo and the yet-to-be-released Turbo Cabrio.

In any case: the Targa – which has been released the same day we got these shots of the facelifted 911 – does not yet feature the modifications. While the cabin might get a bit of polish too, we still believe that power will continue to come from the current 3.6- or 3.8-litre flat-six with an output of 325 and 355 bhp respectively.

Exterior modifications will include a new layout for the headlights and totally new taillights as well as a re-designed front bumper with air-intakes appearing more aggressively, strongly reminding of those of the new 911 Turbo. Finally, the rear bumper will be modified, too.

While I like porshes and I know the porshe faithful will find this blasphemous, porshe makes brilliant cars but their styling take no chances. None whatsoever. I guess taking no styling chances is better than pulling a Bangle like BMW did but I mean do SOMETHING a little different. Overall. Brilliant cars, but they all look far too much alike.

the 911 looks exactly the same as when the new type came out in the late 90's

It's a nice subtle refresh. Don't change what's not fucked up. When the 911 stops looking like a 911 that will be a sad day.
