Needless to say fans of the Nissan Sentra have been less than enthusiastic about the styling of the next-generation model due out later this year. Maybe these latest spy photos of the 2008 Nissan Sentra SE-R will cheer them up a little. Even with the taped up front and rear ends it's clear the SE-R will get typical high-performance mods like a deeper front air dam, rear deck spoiler and extended sills. Bigger wheels and tires add some muscle to its stance, and just in case you're still in doubt about the authenticity of this prototype we added a close up of one of the heavy-duty brake calipers and its "SE-R" lettering.

I thought my '93 SE-R was awesome looking. If only I'd not been in school then... I'd have put on some proper tires and suspension. The follow-ups..... bleh.

Is it me or are there a lot of new cars lately with the rear end of the 3? Everytime I see MikeyB post a new sedan the back end looks like that of a 3. Nobody else wants to be creative anymore?

I like nissans overall. I used to be a sales weasel at a Nissan Dealership.
350Z's, Altima SE-Rs, last gen maxima are all among some of my fave cars, but GOOD GRIEF THE SENTRA IS UGLY! Last gen was ugly and I figured they could only get better......nope!!! Even uglier. Why not just call it was it is: The Nissan "BOX ON WHEELS" SE-R.
NO THANKS!

...ohh boy and the S-ER gets bigger and more pig like...see this is where every single auto manufacturer has gone wrong they have taken a great platform and made it suck...Example: VW GTI great concept when it came out very lightweight with just enough power to make it a small pocket rocket....now they are pigs with a side of bovine with weight that barely allows them to be propelled into the high 14's. thats what made the b13 sentra so great it was lightweight, quick, awesome engine, and handled very well now its big, heavy, crappy engine that like alot of other manufacturers they just threw displacment and a variable valve timing system at which bumps HP up to mediocre at best

Looks like a baby Maxima...Bulky and clumpy...I agree with you guys...They need to scratch this current design theme and start with something a lot cleaner and leaner...

Isn't this based on a Renault(sp?) platform? I wonder what engine it'll use? Sure is ugly. They sure went downhill from the original B13 sentra.

Ok I have to comment. I hate the design direction Nissan is going with their cars. I actually like the Versa which is sold in Europe as the Almera. I think Renualt designers are styling these US market cars. I like the B15 SE-R that I use to own and I like the Altima now. The new Sentra and Maxima are just gross. Will this design theme effect GM when they merge?

From what I have read, the Nissan/GM merge is still under discussion. Basically finding out what technologies they can swap and the best fit for both. No mention of design departments.

I agree. I have yet to see a slicker design especially for a wagon than the P5 not even the 3 (peep)

^^^^you are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT^^^^^ The P5 was just about styled to perfection. It's wimpy motor kept it out of superstardom. I think the 3 hatch is overall a better car, but something was lost in the translation. A certain fun to drive aspect, a certain tossability, and it does not even come CLOSE to looking as good as the P5 did. My dream wagon/hatch is the P5 body with the MS3 Motor and suspension setup....NIRVANA!!!!

Do read that Toyota is also wanting to merge with GM? On a side I emailed you on myspace.

Frumpy little bastard... That must be the new thing. All new cars have to have that up-in-the-air ass and little wheel wells. Plus, there's too much car above the wheel wells. There's nothing even remotely "sleek" about it...

They did do marketing test. They had to redesign the version to this. Thats why the B15 was on the market for 6 years.

And this is the best they could come up with?
This thing is an abomination to the auto gods! The reason I'm so completely flabbergasted about this hunk of automotive junk is that I used to HATE selling sentras when I was a salesman. I would struggle to find good things to say about them. We heard a restyle was coming and now this....
Luckily I'm not a car salesman anymore so I don't have to try to make this atrocity look good.

good call on the baby maxima.... i find the maxima to be one of the porkiest cars around... whenever i see someone driving one I'm like... dude! for like a grand more you could've go a TL! those cars are basically the same in many respects.... but the acura looks 1000x better.
my 2nd car was a 92 se-r..... loved that freakin thing! it only had 140hp but, for the time, it seemed pretty quick. what would you say that's the equivalent of now? maybe 200? But I digress... If Nissan had any interest in bringing the marque back to it's storied past, they'd bring out a coupe version. sure.. they'd have stiff competiton from the Si but so what? Nissan should have enough balls to take em on!
this SE-R continues to be an enigma to me.... I mean, when it came back out in 2002 it looked pretty good. it had some funky guages along with those two tone seats.... and the front looked sort've like a skyline. what happened to all of that? I was at a nissan dealership the other day and sat in an se-r and was like.. wtf is this shit? boooooooooring
Imagine a modern day version of the early 90's SE-R... Keep it under 2800lbs, 2 doors and at least 220hp... that would be a fun ride.

Renault actually makes some really good cars on the European market, you only service the car every 30000 kilometers no joke even for motor oil. but the styling is rubbish and the interior plastics are cheap other than that they make solid cars as far as the european market is concerned.
