I am helping my friend who has a 01 protege sedan get some rear speakers. I gave her some infinity reference front speakers and I told her that infinity rears would sound best w/her fronts. I found these on crutchfield.com and they are 6X9 (which is the right size for the rears, right) but they say that they don't fit her car. What's the deal? And they offer a installation kit for her to buy, but if they're the same size as factory they should just slide right in.
Moral of the story is, should I go ahead and tell her to go with these anyway even though crutch says they won't work. Or should I have her get some other infinity's that crutchfield says will work?
These are the one's they say are wrong:

The sedan uses 6x8 in the front doors and 6X9 in the rear deck

Yea she can get them. As long as they are for the rear speakers and for the rear deck NOT THE REAR DOOR! I have the kappa 6X9s. But I can say this. I don't know how good they will sound with out an amp. Does she have a new deck? They wont sound to good with just the stock one.

Her rears are in the door not the back window. But if it's 6X9 for both applications, would it matter what speaker i get as long as it's 6X9?
She just bought a new Pinoneer deck and her new fronts sound amazing w/that deck. But yes, factory amp for everything. All she has new right now is a deck and front speakers. Any suggestions on what to do to make the rears sound good? and still need to to know if I should go ahead w/ the speakers that crutch says won't fit.

take a 6x9 from somewhere and try it out if you are really unsure. problem solved. it'll take 10-15min.

Are you sure they are 6x9s in the door? Most put in 6.5 in speakers there. Have you taken the door panel off to look at them.

I dont know what the rear door speakers are. I think they are neither 6x8 or 6x9 though, that's why I told him to check it out. I personally neveer looked in there.

No I havnt actually looked there, but on the FAQ in the audio section here it says 6X9. So that's what I'm going by.
If you go to crutch.. you can log in your vehicle and it will tell you what fits and what won't. I logged in her 01 protege sedan and the speakers that it gave me saying "will fit your vehicle" are all 6X9. But then I go to purchase a different rear speaker that she wants and crutch says "won't fit vehicle". But the speaker she wants is a 6X9. I don't understand b/c the speaker she wants isn't in the list of speaker options for her car when I log it in, but the one she wants is still a 6X9. If it's a 6x9 like all the other ones how come its not in the list of options, and why do they say that it won't fit when it should b/c it's a 6x9.

The rear door speakers ARE round. Like 6"something. The fronts are 6x8s.

Yea, the rear door speakers are the same as my car (03) and are round. They hold the same size speaker as the MSP and MP3 proteges which are 6.5. The DX, LX, and ES sedans all use the back deck speakers and are 6X9. I just called Mazda South and talked to Bryan there and he had a 99 protege and he had 6X9s in the rear deck. So in all, you can do any 6X9 and will put them in the rear deck unless you cut and make them fit the doors.
Hope this clears it up.

The sedan uses 6x8 in the front doors and 6X9 in the rear deck
2001-2003 Protege Sedan
Front 5x7" @ 2.75"
* Can use 6x8"s.
* Can also use 5.25"s or 6.5"s with additional work.
Rear 6x9" @ Over 8"
I can vouch for the sizes, I installed Excelon 5x7" fronts that matched the original size, same with the rear deck speakers.

Yes, you just answered my question Hughes412. I'm going to have her order the ones she wants right now. Just so long as it's 6X9. Thanks for everything msp forums!!! I really appreciate it:)
