I bought an alpine SWR1042D Duel 4ohm. I just wanted to test it out with the stock amp for a bit. I wired it for 2 ohms like the instructions said.

I have the sub mounted inverted and so I reversed the polarity at the stock amp. + to - and - to + etc. NOW the amp is dead. I had sound for a minute or 2 and now it won't work. Fuse at the amp is ok. I can't figure out what is wrong.

stock amp couldnt handle the load you were placing on it by hooking up the sub. did you get that burnt electrical smell from the amp? sounds like its fried mang.

the kenwood can't go down to 2ohms? I knew there was a reason why I hate anything kenwood.

check the fuse by the battery as well?

Most 2-channel amplifiers can't go down to 2-ohms bridged. That would be 1 ohm per channel. It has nothing to do with Kenwood, it has everything to do with you not understanding impedence. Don't bash Kenwood because you made a mistake.

You should have wired the sub in series for an 8 ohm load. Actually, you should have just gotten a single voice coil 4 ohm subwoofer. That would have given you a 4ohm bridged load (2ohms per channel) and increased the output from the amp without frying it.

However, most likely the amp is not fried. Just change the wiring, turn off your car, wait a minute, turn it back on, and the amp should come on again. Kenwood was probably smarter than you and put in a protection circuit in case you wired your sub incorrectly or shorted the wires.

Also check the fuses just in case but I doubt they would have popped.
