Steering wheel control / aftermarket HU

Is this possible yet? I am dieing in this car without a CD based MP3 player, but I would rather not give up the steering wheel control. Other than ipods (or similar) is there a solution that can utilize the stock buttons on the wheel to control say a nice alpine unit?

you can get a PAC to connect to your steering wheel controls. They work with many aftermarket stereos. From what I've heard there's a little bit of delay between pushing the button and getting the result you were looking for, which annoys some people. There are also some eclipse HUs that (with a software upgrade) will integrate directly with the controls.
