Hey anyone else having a problem with oil leaking after oil changes? I have only had to have the oil changed twice so far but after each time i have had to go back to have them check it for oil leaking from the drain plug. They tell me they had to replace the gasket on the drain plug now both times. After that it stops leaking? Anyone have this problem?

There suposed to change the o-rings evertime the oil is changed in fact the new filter comes with 2 o-rings, a big one and a little one.

I have taken it the place i have been taking my cars now for years (when i had my P5 and my taurus) never had a problem before. I now have the 3 and so far the oil has leaked from the drain plug both times. The place i have been going to is Valvoline Instant oil change, b/c of me being on the road all day in the car (6200 miles in 2 months) i cant drop the car off anywhere (like the dealer). Suggest somewhere else? Can you just buy the orings somewhere? is that the problem?

the O'rings should come with the filter for our car, either the moron putting them on is over tightening things causing damage to the o-ring or isn't re-placing the o-ring... or you may have a stripped out drain plug?

Here's what I did. When I was looking at the EPC (when I still worked as a parts consultant at Mazda) I noticed the gasket to the oil filter housing was the same in the 2.0 and the 2.3. I checked with everyone in my dealership, and found out that by putting the 2.0 oil filter body on a 2.3 would not void my warranty. Fixed the problem of the oil filter by being able to replace it with the 2.0 oil filter, so I won't have to worry about Pep Boys or Jiffy Lube breaking the plastic housing any more.

So i understand this since people are saying orings with filter and drain plug, There is supposed to be a new gasket/oring with the DRAIN plug everytime? I know there should be one on the filter. Its was leaking from the Drain plug.

I work for a dealer, and on all mazda 3's every oil change gets a new drain plug washer.

I didnt even have a drain plug washer when I did my first oil change.
The dealer did the first three, and I did the fourth.
I had to get a pack of washers for a couple dollars cuz the dealer lost it or something.

But yah, repalce both the small and large O-ring on the filter (make sure to grease em a little first) and the washer on the drain plug.

Not a drop of oil leaks after a proper change.

yes, EVERY time. it is an aluminum crush washer...they are only like $1 from the dealership, so you might as well get one when you get your filter...

I think I'm going to ask the dealership about doing a 2.0 filter conversion and if they have any problems with it. this way I can get get a GReddy block adapter as well.
