I have a 99 ES with the stock alarm. You can turn off the alarm by holding the LED button and turning the key, starting the car. It will beep to let you know it's off. From then on, the FOB just unlocks and locks the door. However, on occasion (when parked at a hotel) I want to be able to turn it back on. I cannot remember for the life of me how to do this.
Help?
Before you try to flame, I just searched for 2 hours. It's not in the Protege FAQ either, that I could find.

I don't have any info on disabling/enabling the system, but you can order the alarm owner's manual... the part number is 0000-8F-C12

I wonder if the later 3rd gen alarm has this feature...
I don't remember seeing it in the installation guide, owner's manual, or on the quick reference card though, so I doubt it.

The only way we knew about it was the dealer told us when we first picked up the car back in 99. I didn't realize that nobody else knew about it. If TheMan doesn't have that info, then I doubt anyone else will. I fully expected to find that info in searching the available mazda forums, but no one does. Not even how to turn it off.
I'll report back with what I find.
Oh, and thanks TheMan, didn't say that earlier. I'll check into that.
