SMART ass advert rips on American autos - UPDATE

Apparently the American auto industry's reputation is particularly worthless in South Africa as this billboard ad for the SMART forfour shot on the side of the road near Johannesburg portends. It glibly reads, "German engineering, Swiss innovation, American nothing." The parent company of SMART, DaimlerChrysler, happens to be a "German-American" multinational corporation, so the fortwo has deeper ties to these United States than this billboard and SMART's ad agency suggest.

UPDATE: The car on the billboard has four doors, which makes it a forfour, not a fortwo.

^^ but most american cars are less than desirable at best.
I don't see how Dodge thinks they can sell a Magnum at 39k though, that's a bit much. Yeah it was really nice looking until I saw that price, then I expected a lot more from it. haha

i'd change that statement to say that most cars are less than desireable at best. i'm not drooling over most korean or japanese cars, or really even most german cars. maybe italian cars....
are you talking about the SRT-8? i think any SRT-8 is a screaming deal for what you get...while not as luxurious, the charger SRT-8 is 95% of the performance of an M5 (or a CLS55 AMG) for less than half the price.

You have to look at who owns it. Yes thay might make a nice car but that's what the American company pays them to do. They make the money and bring it home the the US!
And as far as cars go, yes it is true that the American car makers don't put a whole lot into the econ market (which is what the protege, mazda3, corrola and civic are). And what they do put their money into (SUVs trucks and mucle cars) they rock at. There are not many (if any) that can beat a good old american mucle for the dollar. And give them a few more yrs and the econo class will be tested as well.

Yeah the SRT-8. It's hella nice looking though. It would definitely be a pimp ride, and if someone gave me one I'd be VERY happy to drive it. I just think that I would rather have a G35 coupe for the money.. and yes, I know they are totally different cars nowhere near the same class or performance. To me, they are both the same though because they are both a lot more car than I really need haha.
