AMSTERDAM, Holland — According to respected Dutch automobile biweekly Autovisie, Bugatti will unleash a mega-luxury sedan with 950 horsepower. This ultimate Bugatti is reportedly coming around 2010.
Sales of Ferdinand Piëch's megalomaniac dream car, the Bugatti Veyron, are already exceeding expectations, which has led to plenty of speculation about the company's next act. Earlier reports had suggested a more subdued sports car, but Autovisie's drawing shows a Maybach-thwarting sedan with a claimed 950-hp engine.
When Volkswagen took over control of Bugatti, two concept cars were presented in quick succession: the EB118 and the EB218. Both were powered by 18-cylinder engines and had styling similar to that of the planned sedan.
However, sales of these gargantuan vehicles have been less rosy than manufacturers wish, with both the Rolls-Royce Phantom and the Maybach failing to achieve planned volumes.
