new AutoVantage survey of 2,000 adult commuters in 20 major cities has concluded that Miami has the worst road etiquette. The Norwalk, Connecticut company's phone survey also found a lot of negative feelings in:
Phoenix, Arizona
New York, New York
Los Angeles, California
Boston, MassachusettsAnd there must be something to the whole 'Minnesota Nice' thing, as Minneapolis topped the list of friendliest commuter cities. Other top finishers included:
Nashville, Tennessee
St. Louis, Missouri
Seattle, Washington
Atlanta, GeorgiaAutoVantage questioned participants on everything from obvious displays of motoring anger (middle fingers, cutting off other cars, tailgating, etc.), turn signal use, talking on the phone, and 'driving too fast.'

San Diego drivers were pretty nice when i went there. I sat through a light once while it went from red back to red in a short amount of the time. The guy behind me highbeamed me when it went yellow and i was like ah fuck and waved at him apologetically. He waved back sayin it's cool. Here in Jersey, I would've been stabbed 17 times in the eye with a blunt object.

2000 commuters per city or 2000 total (100 per city). I honestly don't think you can get an honest tally by only interviewing 100 people in any given city.
Boston drivers are aggressive, but I rarely see rude drivers. Talking on the cell phone is something that people do in every city (except maybe NY where I know it is illegal w/o a hands free device).

I'll believe the MN drivers are nice. I look at MN like this: cold climate, warm people. (thumb)

Imagine NY and Boston drivers, but with traffic that's actually moving more than 5mph, punks that race anything and drive 40 over the limit regularly with old folks that can't even see the accelerator pedal (much less use it), throw in language barriers that make it hard to read road signs and sporadic constuction that's not marked and you'll have Miami. It doesn't help that there are no right turns lanes and the concept of a passing lane is only being taught in high school history.

Because no one has asked them to learn how to drive. They hand out licenses like candy and don't ever require drivers to freshen up their skills.
Driver's Ed students today don't have to drive over 30mph, merge onto a highway, or parallel park during their exam. The written test is a joke and doesn't cover many situations drivers will encounter on the road.
An 80 year old senior citizen on the road today probably got their license some time in the 50's. Since then, all they have had to do was pass an eye exam to renew their license. The rules of the road have changed quite a bit over the past 50 years.

Having grown up in Miami then moving to ATL, I agree completely with this survey. The Dolphin Expressway is like a demolition derby. I still drive too aggressivly in GA and haven't gotten used to this "southern hospitality" thing. My nieghbors wave and I have to force the other 4 fingers to wave back instead of the one finger salute I'm used to waving. Also, I never hear horns anymore, something floridians use as turn signals and every other communication that georgians can accomplish with a simple nod, like "it is your turn to go at a 4-way stop" or "slow traffic keep right." I love the beach and beautiful women of FL, other than that, I don't miss a thing. It's where bitter people go to die.

yeah, its pretty bad around los angeles...never a day when either i get cutoff, tailgated, or see some stupid ass drivers in their huge ass suvs talking on their cell phones and oblivious to their surroundings...add to that those who use the carpool lane as a passing lane or what i like to call "the swervers" and u have a pretty crazy driving environment...

I can honestly say that I've driven in Cali, NC, Boston & Miami. Boston drivers suck a$$, if you put on your turn signal to get in a merging lane, they laugh at you, speed up and ride your bumper. In Cali, I was always afraid of getting in someone else's lane because they'd always give you a dirty look and STILL ride your a$$. In Miami, half of them don't have insurance or a driver's license and even the people with $75K cars drive like maniacs. But in NC the only thing you have to worry about is a truck with debris falling out the tailgate. But at least they wave at you without waving the middle finger when a piece of lawn equipment falls near your car. Gotta love those swell southern people.

I have to disagree a little with the NC comment. Every other driver I came across in Greensboro think that they're Jeff Gordon, the rest of the state's okay though.
