Pontiac spokesman Jim Hopson told Inside Line that the G5 will start at $14,990, including destination charge, for the base model; the uplevel GT starts at $17,490, including destination. The base model includes air conditioning and a spoiler.
The base G5 comes equipped with a 2.2-liter, four-cylinder engine that makes 148 hp and 152 lb-ft of torque. The optional 2.4-liter engine makes 173 hp and 163 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed manual transmission is standard; a four-speed automatic is optional. The G5 with the manual returns 25 mpg in city driving and 34 mpg on the highway.
Hopson said that, unlike the Cobalt, the G5 will not be offered with a supercharged 2.4-liter engine.
Pontiac has an array of Scion-like accessories planned for the G5, Hopson noted, including color-coordinated windshield-wiper arms, a high spoiler and color inserts for gauges and door handles.
The following photos are of the first build of the 2007 Pontiac (http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30999#) G5 GT Coupe (http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30999#) for the U.S. Market at the Lordstown, Ohio plant. It basically looks exactly like the Canadian version, however you will notice that it doesn't say G5 Pursuit on the back.

Wow, they did not even try to differentiate this from the cobalt at all. The grill and the badges are the only difference.
I wonder if they noticed the cobalt is a steaming sack of poo, why would pontiac execs agree to that? I guess they really didn't have a choice.
The fact that they are offering 'scion like' accessories like color matched wiper blade arms and a high spoiler show's how completely disconnected they are. If people want to accessorize, they do it with cool stuff, not trash like they're offering.

Why would they bring it here?

I'm surprised that they have not rebadged Daewoos as Pontiacs here. How about a Pontiac Wave or Pontiac Matiz G2?

Hopson said that, unlike the Cobalt, the G5 will not be offered with a supercharged 2.4-liter engine.'cause, you know, Pontiac is GM's "excitement devision".
Oh, wait, have they been saying "excrement division" all this time? That would make more sense.

my thoughts exactly. pontiac is supposed to be the "sporty" division, but there won't be a supercharged version? GM management FTL.

why doesnt pontiac just drop all the cars and just concentrate on GTOs and solstices? then they'll have exclusivity, and since nobody buys pontiacs anyway they wont take that bad of a hit and they can make it up with margin on the "exclusiveness" of their brand.

Why doesn't GM just stop trying? Just stop. Build your cars in Europe because they are actually doing well, give up on your NA market, then try again in a few years when you have built up yourself to a carmaker than can design again.

So wait, the G3 which is a bigger car, now has a smaller sibling called the G5? Isn't the number supposed to get larger as the car gets larger? (ie Mazda naming convention)

Speaking of badging. I laugh when I look at the rear hatch because the emblem is placed directly above the key hole. Looks like an exclamation point!
Note ot GM.
If pontiac is going to be your "sporty" division then:
1. The G5 should ONLY be available with the supercharger.
2. The G5 should have a callaway suspension option (thumb)
3. The G5 should have a convertable option
4. Kill off the Chevy and GMC names. Create a fake take-over plan to have Holden buyout GM, then cut all ties with the unions and fire all but one designer from each devision.
5. Blow up the Deawoo plant and enter all currently built Deawoo's into demolision derbies.
6. Have beer...you've done good

WOW!! Yes the G5 should be supercharged with the Opel Astra OPC/VXR 2.0T rated around 250hp and have a better suspension and a convertible option. It should also have different exterior trim like different front and rear. Blackout headlamps and taillamps.
Chevy and GMC are the best sellers out of all the GM brands here in the States. A lot of the Deawoo built Chevys and Suzukis are built better then the US built vehicles.
I think Holdens should be rebadged as Pontiacs here in the states. New Bonneville based on the Holden Stateman and Caprice. While the Grand Prix, GTO and Firebird/Trans Am based on Hondens next generation Zeta chassis. Drop the ugly Montana SV6 to let Chevy and Saturn to deal with minivan buyers. Replace the Montana with a sport wagon based on Holdens Adventra.
With the midlife update of the G6 add the 2.8T V6 from the Saab 9-3 and euro tuned sport suspension and AWD from the Opel Vectra VXR/OPC. As for the Torrent get rid of the old 3.4L V6 to be replaced with Honda's 3.5 V6 from the Saturn VUE Redline. The Vibe should be replaced with a Delta platform based (HHR, Cobalt/G5/Pursuit, ION, and Astra) with both FWD and AWD powered by both the regular Ecotec 2.2 and supercharged 2.0T which should also underpin a Saab 9-2x.
I do not know why I was thinking about all this.
