I just purchased a new 5 speed Mazda 3 S. Can anyone let me know the specs for breaking in the engine? In the past I have been told no higher than 3-4rpms for a certain number of miles etc. Has anyone heard anything about this particular car?

Thanks for the help.

many say its around 1500km,so around 800-900 miles, but that was with older engines...

almost all manufacturer theses days have already break in the engines before putting them in the cars, the engines have to past several tests, torque,hp,balance and more,so they have to try them before selling them,i use to work for a gm dealership,in 1997,and the engines where already tested and its almost 10 years now...

my best advice would, not necesseraly a break in period, but simply drive with your head for the first month, until the first oil change,be gentle, you can push it sometimes, but why touching the redline each time?no reasons....

Thanks, I found in the manual it said just dont exceed 65mph for the first 1,000 km (600 miles). Didn't see anything about rpms.

don't drive at steady rpms (cruise control) for extended periods either....

I would change the oil sooner than 3k as well as the tranny fluid. Maybe its overkill but 30 bucks cant even buy a tank of gas anymore.... so why not.

someone actually wrote a book about this. they tested hundreds of motors and found that the best way to do it was a mixture of hard driving and normal driving. It also stated that if this wasnt done within the first 50 miles or so then its too late. But engine loss is only about 4% from that. I know someones gonna disagree with me so lemme find the artice about that.....

I just keep it easy for 3000 miles just to be on the safe side REGARDLESS of what people or the manual says
