I am looking at getting a Mazda 3or 6 or a VW GLI. Because of gas prices this will be a big determining factor in my decision.

What kind of mileage is everyone getting for a 5 speed 6s?

You should reconsider whether it should be such a large determining factor. Have you done the math? Each mpg difference (for cars in the 25 mpg range) costs you about $50 per year. The cars you're considering don't vary in mpg that much.

The GLI and 3 doesnt vary by much, but the 6 does. I am also looking to see what people get in the "real world" not what the EPA shows. Engine speed and vehicle speed have a lot to do with gas mileage. I don't necessarily shift at 3k rpm's or drive 65 on the freeway like the Mazda suggests. That being said, the GLI also has a 6 speed where the others have 5, as well as the gearing ratios are all different.

depends on year, new or used, if used how it was maintained, what transmittion you have, if you fill up with 93 in a 87 only, and individual driving habits. EPA is 1 person with nothing in car and not in traffic. There's a link in the bottom of this thread to the original MPG thread. Please continue this topic in thread below :)
