By now (7-May) I thought this car would be available. I have yet to see one at a dealer.
Have any of you seen or driven one yet?
What is the hold up? (huh)

I saw my first CX-7 on the road today in Richmond Hill, Ontario!!
Icy blue metallic -- it was like the colour of cyan / silver. Nice looking but I'd probably pick a different colour.
Anyone living around that area... you can keep an eye out for this driver :-) He's probably getting off work or something. He was at the intersection of 16th and Woodbine, going north on Woodbine at 6:30pm.
Sorry no pics.
Not sure where he got it from.. or if this was a test drive car? The license plate was not one of those temporary test driving ones.
Update:
Checked with dealer @ Avante Mazda, he said that probably 2nd week to middle of June we'll be ready to test drive. In the upcoming weeks they are going to head to Mazda Canada head office and take a look/drive the vehicles themselves.
Oh and the blue CX-7 was probably from Mazda head office. Press vehicle for review.

I went to the dealer today and saw a couple of CX-7s, one of the nicest SUVs i have ever seen, but my mom (the buyer, lol) is thinking of getting either the CX-7, Mazda5 or the Mazda3 (i think she should go for the MS6 lol), the problem is that for the price of a fully loaded 3 or 5 (including navi) you can get the really basic CX-7

I am in the northwest suburbs of Chicago and the dealers here have a couple per dealer and that's it. A few more coming end of May. I have seen in person the red, the grey, the platinum. Red is the best so far out of those three....grey is bland, platinum a little better....not much. I am thinking the blue, the white, the dark Cherry and the red are all winners! Black is nice too. I am dying to see a blue and a white one!! Zoom, Zoom!!

This evening I passed by the Tim Hortons on Leslie&16th again. This time there were 2 CX-7s hanging around in that plaza!
Definitely a CX-7 congregation area! One was the black coloured one, and the other was galaxy-grey. OMG they looked so nice (my preference goes to the grey one though).
This is crazy... I can't stop thinking about getting one but since I'm already on my lease for my Mazda 5, I guess I'll have to wait 4 more years (shocked).
In the meantime... I guess all I can do is keep my eyes on the lookout for more CX-7s and keep on posting in here.

Hope you realize Mazda Canada's head office is at Leslie & 16th (Vogell Rd to be exact).
Interesting for me is that I've only trully seen 1 CX-7 on the road since launch ('trully seen' being that it wasn't at a dealership and wasn't a dealership/manufacturer vehicle - I live within 5km of Mazda Canada's head office).
I totally would have expected more, but I do know they're selling.

Yup I see that head office everytime I drive on 16 but have never actually gone up there myself. It's not exactly a showroom up there right?
I also would have expected more CX-7s on the road too. Perhaps the dealers don't have enough vehicles and are waiting for the next shipment?

I'm thinking of starting with the intake system at first. Maybe looking into after market calipers and stainless exhaust?
Dont want to do anything to void the warrenty, but it would be nice to see if i can gain a few mpg. I heard a cold air intake will help maybe 1 or 2 mpg's and a few ponies.
What about you?
By the way, yours looks great too!

Anyone seen the white CX7 yet?? Can anyone snap some pics if you do? Out here mostly greys, silvers, blacks and reds. Hubby does not like the red...says it's too orange...I disagree. No silver, grey or icy blue.....he does not like those either. I am thinking the white and I am shocked but he liked the black and so do I but it's so high maintenance!! I am not sure about the blue....so it's probably white or black?

OK.....Seen a liquid platinum sport model w/black cloth today in Schaumburg, IL. Gotta say I liked the color....shows the lines well on the car. I am not a fan of grey and not usually silver unless it's super bright like my RX 8 but this color seemed silvery grey with a hint of violet.....nice in the sun. cruzdreamer,
Buy the Blue, you will not regret it.
The liquid platinum was on our list, but I favored Blue.
I think that the Reds, Greys will soon be way too common. Only a few Blues will stick out and turn heads !!! It is certainly being noticed here in Eastern Canada.

Hey there Folks!
As of 07/12/2006, I'm now sporting around in the Los Angeles, CA area with my new CX-7! Sweet ride!
It's an AWD Grand Touring model, Black Cherry Mica (just like the avatar), Sand GT leather seats with the technology package.
My dealer, Galpin Mazda in Van Nuys, CA had to go to another dealer to trade one of their vechicles to get me the one (and only one around LA) that I wanted.
VERY impressed by the ride of this vehicle, and actually my dealer!

They are all great colors.
We started off having the dealer order us an Icey Blue. When we saw it with the other CX-7's on the lot we lost interest in it and were torn between the Platinum and True silver colors.
Took the silver home for an extended test drive over the weekend. When returning on Monday to purchase it we are drawn to a White one that was just being delivered. Funny how removing it away from the rest of the CX-7's it became her new favorite.
Now even though all three in the family agreed that the Copper Red would be the best looking, but as the daily cleaner of two MX-5's my age puts a damper on keeping up a pristine third daily driver vehicle. So even though we just picked up a new white MX-5 a few weeks back, we ended up taking the white CX-7 also.
Sure wish they would have made them in a SeaMist Green and Champagne as color choices were just so limiting…

Hey James,
Great! If you don't mind I have a few of questions for you.
1. I have 600+ miles on it, and STILL the car has that funky catalytic converter burning smell. Did yours have that, if so, how many miles?
2. The "autopilot" BOSE sound control doesn't seem to work - I really don't notice any volume and/or tonality changes with various inside cabin volume changes. Notice that issue?
3. The air conditioner works, but it's not the coldest I've ever felt. I'm here in sunny CA where AC is MANDATORY. The car does cool, but I've been more impressed with my old traded-in car. Yours supercold, cold, or adequate?
Thanks!
Michael

We did have a thread on the smell issue in this same forum. Everybody gets it. It does go away - mine did at 800 - 1000 mi

07-20-2006, 04:51 PM
1. Yeah, everyone seems to have the smell. People have said it's something they put on the engine to protect it for the trip over here. Mine was never that strong, and was gone in 3 tanks or so.
2. I haven't noticed any change in volume w/increasing speeds either. I eventually turned it off.
3. My experience with the AC is similar to yours, except sometimes it's plenty cold, and sometimes it's only adequate. It seems like in general people have mixed reviews on the AC. Setting it to recirculate helps, and someone said closing the sunroof shade helps. I've noticed the dash gets pretty warm in the sun, especially the hard plastic curved piece in front of the driver.

I concur on all accounts.. the A/C isn't the coldest... in NY when it hit 100 early this week i was sweating for 20min. I found that if you close the passenger vents (assuming you are flying solo) it distributes to the driver better. My car actually doesnt smell... it has 400 miles on it.

I just got back from a roadtrip from Pittsburgh, PA to Hilton Head, SC, Savannah, GA, and Charleston, SC... and back to the Burgh. Covered almost 2000 miles in 6 states, over the last 10 days...
AND NOT A SINGLE CX-7 SPOTTED ON THE ROAD !!!!!!
The only other CX-7's we saw were on dealership lots.
The CX-7 was absolutely AWESOME on the highways. My wife would say, "It doesn't even feel like we're moving." Truth was, we were cruising at least 70 mph! Also, the seats were quite comfortable, even after sitting for 6 hours. As for the Zoom-Zoom factor... passing at 80+ mph was a breeze with a quick step on the gas peddle. I had to remind my wife to look at the speedometer - she wouldn't realize she was doing over 90 !!!!!
Will be calculating mileage & posting soon - it appears we averaged about 20 mpg overall.

Been driving our Black Cherry Mica GT for 2 weeks now. Had a great opportunity to drive about 4 hours north to Stillwater, OK and back for Thanksgiving. The car was a pleasure to drive and with an Escort 8500 X50 in the window watching for smokey - 80 mph was a comfortable cruise speed. Pulled the baffle from the airbox on the way back, but didn't see any noticable improvement in the fuel mileage. all in all - for the bucks one of the best cars I've owned.

San Diego, CA (North County). I see a CX7 almost every day now when commuting to work daily (50 miles one way). I have seen almost every color except the light blue one, and most i see is brand new owners (new purchase, w/no tags). The most ive seen in one day is around 6 CX to and from work...The CX7 population is slowly growing on this corner.

Saw a blue one in Catskill, NY last week.
Sunday drove down to NYC for a bit of shopping and family. Pulled into a shopping center and found a light grey one, (Sport model).
Parked right next to it. What a sight. Waited a bit for the driver then took
off.
That makes two to date in the three months that I have been driving my CX-7.

I've seen 3 or 4 on the road since I discovered the CX-7 about two months ago or so (i'm in Cleveland). It was the same when I bought my Mazda 6 in 2003. Not many on the roads at first (and I bought mine well into the first year of production), but over time the popularity and numbers built.

(wow) Have only seen 6 on the road in my area, but it's always fun to have people come up to me and ask what it is and can they see inside it. They're all pretty much impressed as I was the first time I saw one. Still LOVIN' it. (wow)
