So there's a blue MSP for sale only 3700 original miles absolutely immaculate. Guy is selling along with some aftermarket tail lights, boost, EGT, and oil gauges plus 3 pillar gauge pod. He's asking 19k which would be okay but I heard of people getting into the MSP's when they were still new on lots for less than that. What would be a reasonable offer to make this guy? I'd like to buy this car as a daily driver seeing as the other car purchase has been under the knife almost constantly :)

19K is RIDICULOUS.
Because of the crazy low mileage, I'd say $15-16K tops.

Thanks for the quick reply. I figured the guy was smokin something asking 19k for it in stock trim ;]

Seller asks for $100k buyer says $1.00 find a middle that you can both agree on or just walk. Good luck, sounds pretty nice.

i dont believe that MSP has 3800 miles on it, it would have to have been garaged for the last 3 years or so, i bet that the guy somehow changed the milage on it in order to get more cash out of you, i'd check with the dealer with his vin number first, if its true well then shit, 15-17k sounds about right

I got my blue MSP in October 05, and it only had 24k miles on it and I paid 16 grand for it. This was from a Saturn used car dealership. The engine looked brand new, ran perfectly and the paint was flawless. Car was completely stock too.

So what should I offer this guy? Should I low ball him off the bat and offer 15k? What's consensus here cause I would definitely love a fresh unmolested MSP to work with :)

I would first offer him 15k and if he wants more max yourself at 16k, because Im pretty sure you can buy one for that price at a dealership. Too bad you dont live out here in VA beach, there is a blue 2003.5 MSP for sale at some dealership. I think they want like 16k for it... it has rx8 rims on it i think, it looks pretty nice.

They're out there. My Speed has 36k on it currently; I bought it about 9 months ago with 19k on it.

Yeah that mileage sounds a bit sketchy. you can get a new cluster for 100 bucks and blam your mileage is changed. I am on my third cluster which is about 12,000k miles of the actual.

I paid 17500 for mine off the lot with 3000 on it in 2003...I wouldn't pay a dime over 13500 for an msp nowadays regardless of low miles...perhaps he left out a zero and its really 37,000 miles...

It's conceivable the milage is accurate. Check the tread on the tires, and check the clutch pedal wear. Both should look brand new with no wear on the rubber on the clutch pedal. THEN, if it's accurate, offer no mre than 15k. This guy is tring to make a profit regardless. Almost no one paid 19k brand new.
I paid 17.5 off the showroom floor in '03.

Okay so I ask him about the mileage and this was his response
"The car was a weekend car, original miles, i was very cautious on were i drove the car, never took it out in rain or even any indication of bad weather. There is still a 1 1/2 year full coverage warranty left on the the car as well which also is nice. It pretty much is brand new with some extra products included for customization if want to. Get back to me and let me know if this car is for you. I prefer a phone call if you are very interested"
Then I sent him a response saying the car was usually sold for LESS than 19k off dealer floors brand new and that I would like to negotiate the price. I also told him if he was firm at 19k then he should get back to me in a month when he hadn't sold it (no disrespect intended).
Then he responds
"Firm on $19,000, considering what i am also giving the customer and the few miles that are on the car and i realize the car is almost 3 years old, but it is a limited production car and is in excel. cond. I am not willing to bring it much lower than this because I have had a few people interested and
the price suited them, but first come first serve is what I want. Any
autotrader website, kelley blue book, edumunds, etc.. has this car selling even higher than what i am asking for and alot more miles are on the cars, also this is the rarest color the mazdaspeed protege made. However if you really are serious, like i said before call my # and we will talk."
What should I tell this guy? cause apparently he's living a pipe dream.
