ok, just installed a boost gauge.. at idle i am at 23 mm/hg. why.. why vacuum and not boost. then when i floor it, it goes up to 0.. never shows any boost. whats the deal with this? is there a way that i can figure my boost from these readings. please help asap. thanks.

heh i had the exact same problem. turns out i used a 1 way valve to connect two vac hoses together. doubt that's your issue though. also, where do you hook it up to

Should be at 0 with key off.
20-22 vac at idle and will not go past 0 unless the car is in motion.
You should go into full boost at around 2200-2500 rpm's not sure exactly.

put some clamps or even zip ties at the ends of the hoses where it meets the T fitting. don't msp's run 6-7 lbs stock?

I've heard that tapping into the passenger side of the brake booster line gives a more accurate reading. I have my guage hooked up there via a vac block and get about the same reading as I did in the location pictured.

Mine was at a hair over 5 when it was stock so that's ok. Give or take their not all the same. What mods are on the car?

meh.. thanks guys.. got it all set up. hoping to push that needle up to around 10 psi soon. this is a different topic.. but how much boost can i push with forged rods and pistons.
how much horsepower could i push with some bolt ons.. and not blow the motor?

get EMS
TravisS05

which ems? do i have to go through and program it? i was looking at unichip.. says its plug and play.. whats the deal with that?

it's plug and play, comes preconfigured for certain mods. if you add bolt-ons and what not after that, you need to pay a unichip dealer to configure it for you. ideal if you're a) not knowledgable and dont care to learn b) lazy c) not going crazy with mods. the other piggy back would be the MPI (which is what i'm getting), but that's user configurable. Many support here for it as far as how to configure and what not.
Then you have the do-it-yourself megasquirt. Not too familiar with that. You also have the AFC by DSMConvert which does fuel only, as opposed to timing as well. And then you have your choice of standalones like haltech and aem and what not. Those are the hardest to tune (need a professional), and ideal for track use mainly, unless there's no inspection in your state (standalones will not pass a odb2 inspection). For more info there's a sticky about engine management in the MSP section.

yeah i'll try to snap one tomorrow, just a warning though it's ugly as all hell...had the vac block in there and apparently didn't have the right thread on my fittings so it was leaking...lets just say jb weld is messy stuff and that's what i used to seal the fittings in the block...but i'll post a pic tomorrow...actually here are some nice pics of the way it's supposed to be installed courtsey of boomergt:

i just got the greddy ebc and im gonna run that off the waste gate line. i have my boost gauge t'd off the manifold like TravisS05 and ive had no problems. bpv and bov off the brake booster via the brake booster kit from **********. thats what i recommend so the only thing off the line from you wastegate is the ebc.
