Regretfully CA is sort of getting screwed on this one. Due to the 06 2.3L being classified as a PLEV emissions vehicle the CAI would never be able to pass CARB for the 06. Now after saying that, it will fit the 06 just fine it just won't pass CA PLEV emissions.

I was told it was PLEV from Mazda. The only thing I know for sure is that there was no way they where going to be able to get the 06 to pass CARB because of the emission level code of the 06 2.3L.
But like I said this really only effects CA Mazda3's, and it only effects them at emission test time.

You mean PZEV I think. Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle. I had read that the 06 2.3 would be PZEV, even though I always thought "partial zero emissions" referred to hybrid cars.
Yeah the whole CARB thing really only applies to California anyway, though my car, purchased in Massachusetts, has the "California Emissions" package (maybe they all did). So does this mean that Mazda dealerships will or will not still try to void people's warranties for having a CAI and blame any problem with the car on the CAI? :) I'm lucky, I've never had a problem with my car that required looking under the hood.
Thanks for the info though, it's good that CA people have the option now.

Due to it being a Mazdaspeed accessory you shouldn't have any issue's with your local dealer, hell most of them won't even know that they exsist non the less that it isn't for the PZEV. My guy in Mazda said that it will work on the 06 just fine it just won't pass CA emissions. So the other 49 and Canada will be able to use these all day long, CA owners will only be able to use them 364 out of 365.

If the 3 is anything like the Protege5 it would be no problem to swap it out for that 1 day of the year.
And with the warranty thing, yeah since it's a factory accessory it shouldn't be an issue, unless they can prove that not having the dealership install it caused the problem. It all different dealership to dealership, with some dealerships voiding the warranties on Mazdaspeed Proteges if the front tires were wearing faster than the rears (claiming the cars must have been raced or something), and with me where the dealership said that they were going to void my warranty because they claimed that my aftermarket wheels were causing the paint on my rear fenders to bubble with rust underneath. The L word (Lawyer) seems to fix those problems though. I can't wait until I'm older (20 now but I look 13) so that people will start taking me more seriously.
If only dealerships like your dealership or Ken were closer to me :)

With the Mazdaspeed accessories even if the dealer doesn't install it we can't void any aspect of your warranty unless we can prove improper install or owner abuse, then thats when bring out the L word and make us prove it.

The only blow-off valve available from Mazda is the one that comes stock on the MS6.

Nothing as of yet. They have not released any official info on the 07 Mazdaspeed accessory line-up. That should be out soon.

From your experience, would the addition of a Mazdaspeed CAI (dealer installed) void any portion of the warranty?
I'll stay tuned for the '07 lineup.

No it won't effect any portion of your warranty if it is a Mazda accessory. Even if it isn't a Mazda warranty the dealer in question will have to prove that the item in question is the cause of the problem.
