i know welding of the mazdaspeed is quite common, and most ppl seam to go with a tig weld job.

my question is has anyone welded the diff using mig? i know i can get the heat required out of my mig without too much of a puddle starting - ie high volts, low amps until it glows, then up and amps/wirespeed and complete the weld.

any thoughts? pics?

yes i know tig would be best, i'm just asking for opinions. a good mig job is better than a poor or even average tig job

a tig doesn't penatrate enough, and primeraly adds metal,a tig will bond the metal that is already there, aswell as add a bit of filler to mix.

there is no weld that will truely bond the metal, since it is a cast piece, exept thermite welding, and that is out of the question.

Does anyone have any before and after pics of what it's supposed to look like? I'd like to get this done.

I think you wrote "tig" and meant "MIG".

Anyway, a proper weld...TIG or MIG should penetrate properly as long as good equipment is being used by a good welder.

MIG will work fine as long as you do a decent job with it.

no,not really,Mig adds metal, and unless ground in first doean't really penatrate all to well.

Tig does, and you only add enouh filler to get both sides to melt evenly.

I had mine welded and it worked great, although I'm running a Quaife now. The welder that did mine used TIG and agreed with the general thinking that the least metal added, the better. You don't want to get it out of balance.
