Ok my clutch is starting to go out, and I'm getting a new one. My first question is, what is the best way to take out the transmission without lifting the whole engine? The second one is, what is this SST? I've been reading the Mazda shop manual and it keeps refering to this SST.

SST is refered to by dealer tech's and it simply means Special Service Tool.

As far as taking out the trans....Easiest way, I think, is get the car on the ramps, take the driver's side wheel off, disconnect the control arm, disconnect the axle and pull the trans out. Ofcourse you'll have to fasten the motor somehow because the side motor mount will be disconnected from the trans. Prop it up from the bottom with a wide piece of wood against the oil pan on bricks or something, OR use some kind of fastening belt with a latch to the strut bar.
