4. Stockton-Lodi, California
5. Las Vegas, Nevada

6. Toyota pickup
7. Saturn SL
8. Acura Integra

10. Chevrolet Camaro

The vehicles stolen most frequently were made between 1985 and 1997 and don't have car alarms.

Auto theft is the No. 1 property crime in America, costing more than $8 billion a year. What's more, the FBI reports that auto theft is on the increase.

No where is that more true than in California where vehicle theft has surged from 210,000 cars stolen in 2001 to more than 227,000 in 2002. California Highway Patrol Sgt. Mike Maskarich describes most car thefts as transportation thefts. "They are stealing older cars and using them to joyride, to commit other crimes, and to get from Point A to Point B," he told Oakland's Tri-Valley Herald newspaper, noting that many car thefts are crimes of opportunity. "People pull into a convenience store, leave their keys in the car, come back, and it's gone," Maskarich added.

Tips to protect your vehicle:
* When you park the car, shut the windows and lock the doors.
* Park in well-lit areas at night.
* Don't leave electronics lying on the front seat.
* Use a car alarm, wheel or brake lock, or other theft warning or deterrent device.

Surrey, BC is the top city in Canada for stolen cars. Greater Vancouver is pretty bad for it. West Coast as well, haha. We got the hottest cars in North America, that's why, lol.

If I was car thief California would be paradise, because license to carry is so difficult to obtain that no one's packing but the rich and the famous and other criminals. And they aren't going to do anything to stop you.

Not in the states (mazdas are seriously like 10x as common up there), and not when they are ranking by total number stolen not percentage stolen (# stolen per 1000 or something along those lines).

I think up in the cold white north the Hyundai Tiburon is the most stolen vehicle, no?

One of em. If I can remember, the F150 was on the last list, as well as Dodge Caravan, and the Accord.

I'm in shock that Honolulu, HI isn't on the list. It must be a per capita thing because I have never lived in a place where car theft is so common as it is here. Of course I've never lived in Cali. lol.

There weren't many cars stolen here in Phoenix TODAY.

They were all out protesting.....jk

There is a LOT of crime in Phoenix, Metro, and I am not surprised to be #1 on the list.
