Heya CanadianExpress
I can quote a good policemen I know from Ontario..... If you get stopped and they walk up to your window and say you have a tint which you can not see in they will pull there guns out. So to keep it simple if you can see in through the front window in Ontario you should be ok. As for the sides and rear they don't have a real limit. Remember one thing... you tell me a cop who can tell what percentage it is anyways (shocked)

Around here the police have some kind of electronic doo-dad that can measure light transmittance.

Good to know about the cop thing. The main reason for tinting the windows is for my 17 month old in his child seat seating in the rear.

Be careful going down to Miami or the Keys (as I see a lot of Canadian tourists there) as the cops can pull you over and slice your tints if they deem necessary. I was harassed when younger because I had 25% I think on the fronts. They said that was illegal in Miami also but not really enforced. As a parent now, I went legal on the front and 5% ( I think) on the rears. I'll try and snap some pics.

Thanks antlind. Wanted to see how my Platinum Silver 5 would look. In NH they don't allow tint on the front windows either, unless you get a waiver. We may be moving though, so I think I'll wait until we know the regulations of the state we end up in.

here in georgia I believe they make you put a sticker on the windshield certifying that the tint is legal (35% minimum transmission)
I am gearing up to have this done (or do it myself) I was looking at the http://www.snaptint.com/ website, and they offer several colors of film. What do you folks like or recommend? The smoke looks nice on the web, but there is an additional charge for the charcoal or true grey and I dont honestly have enough experience to know which would be better.
Thanks

So, I think I really need to get tint done before the heat of summer kicks in. Can someone tell me about how much it should cost.
Our laws here are 27% all the way around or you can do darker on the rear if you don't do the front at all. Still trying to decide about that. So I may not be doing the front windows.

Yea, the Mazda place I bought it from did the pin striping. Normally, I hate pin stripe but I thought it completed the look and made my model more unique. I really liked the Mazda 5 incorporated into it.
My tints were $195 for the 3M. THere are two types of 3M, this is the cheaper of the two I think. Lifetime warranty, no fade, and it blocks 50% of solar heat, not just light. So it keeps the 5 cool during hot days more so then normal tints will.

I just got my windows done this afternoon and they came out great!!! I got the 3M High Performance setup with 20% all around...I paid $265.00 out the door, and got a lifetime warranty on film replacement and labor...No bubbles, swirls, or purple fading gauranteed :D
The 20% tint came out nice and dark and made a great contrast against the Stellar Greensilver paint :D

As I begin to look through the yellow pages for tinters in the area, I recall that I have one of those dumb community gate bar code stickers on one of the side windows. Thats on the outside, does the tint normally go on the outside? or the inside? I suppose if it's the outside I'll have to have them remove that sticker and apply for a new one... what a pain.
Thanks,
James

Hey Zoom - I took a look at where the NA screw mounts are and they are 5" forward of the back part of the front door and 12" forward of the back part of the rear door. If you look at Tranquil's pics - there is no way these would fit in those existing spots.

Shit, you're near by! State or local? What % tint you running? Primary or secondary offense?
If you want ammo to fight it in court, go here --> http://www.dot10.state.pa.us/pdotforms/vehicle_code/chapter45.pdf PA Vehicle Code straight off PennDOT's website. In that .pdf, go about 1/5 of the way down and look for § 4524, letter (e), number (1). This defines sun screening [tint] laws for PA. This is law... it states verbatim...
"(e) Sun screening and other materials prohibited.--
(1) No person shall drive any motor vehicle with any sun screening device or other material which does not permit a person to see or view the inside of the vehicle through the windshield, side wing or side window of the vehicle."
As you can see there's NOTHING defining the 70% many people claim for PA. Just that you must be able to see inside the car. This may or may not work in court, but it's at least something to work with... if you plan to pursue it further.
Sorry to hear about that :(
